Last week we told you about a method to fix the “Different SIM detected” error on an iPhone activated with a phonebook card. This method required a bit of file handling and could have scared away the least technically oriented of you.

Fortunately, there is now an easier way to do that.

How to Fix the “Different SIM detected” on the iPhone

Step 1: Insert the phonebook SIM in your iPhone to get out of emergency mode.

Step 2: Go to Cydia and add the following source:

Step 3: In the PushFix repo, look for Hacktivation Patch and install it.

Step 4: Reboot your iPhone.

Done! You should now be able to swap SIM cards without any problem.

Can you provide such solution for 2G phone ??? This pushfix is not compatible with 2G one…and I have got my OS upgraded to iOS 4. Please help. Thanks.

    • DKindaFLESH

How did you upgrade a 2G iPhone to ios4? I though apple didn’t let them upgrade past 3.1.3

  • DreamJ

What do you mean by phonebook SIM ? If I could not get it is there any other solution please? Thanks

  • Vygoss

    Unreal thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Vicky

    Thanks for your mesage.
I wish I would have not been allowed to upgrade to iOS4, but it unfortunately went through and now I have 2g with iOS 4 which is just not getting unlocked for some reason…Please help if someone has some solution. THanks.

  • Vicky

Hey DKindaFLESH, my bad…I guess you are right…my Version is still 3.1.3 but the Modem Firmware is 04.05.04_G and I guess that is restricting me to get my 2G unlocked, would you have any idea how can I get it jailbreaken and unlocked.

    • DKindaFLESH

Have you tried bootneuter? It is supposed to unlock all 2G iPhones

  • Vicky

Do you have some blog or instructions somewhere ?? I just tried it with the jailbreakme and then using the ultrasn0w…but that did not work for me…

  • Vicky

I tried using the bootneuter…and i am getting the following message “different sim detected please connect to itunes”, but i can see my carrier registered top left ” It says T-Mobile on top left but asks me to connect to iTunes. Please suggest.

  • DKindaFLESH

If you are a the emergency call screen, restore to 3.1.3, jb with spirit and unlock with ultrasn0w(for this u need any AT&T sim). If you are in recovery mode, google ireb, install libusb(for windows idk for Mac) and run recovery mode loop fixer. This might work for emergency call screen. Another option is to restore to 3.1.2 ignore 1015 error. Exit iTunes and hacktivate with blackra1n. If you have iTunes 9.1.x google blackbreeze to fix the error message u get with it. Unlock w/ ultrasn0w or blacksn0w

  • if you go to an AT&T store and tell them you want to use your iphone into an ipod they will give you a phonebook sim and then you can do this.

  • Wtf…..thankz……it works…..

    May god bless you always!!!!!

  • Frustrated with Apple Mie

    iPhone 3G
    OS 4.0.2
    Baseband 05.13.04

Problem/Error: Different SIM detected Please connect to iTunes

    Notes & Comments:

I’m just baffled and running in circles trying to resolve this issue and seeking assistance is my last (not first) as I respect your time however I’ve no other choice.

    I need your help.

My iPhone 3G has been jailbroken and unlocked before, several times – recently I succeeded in downgrading my OS from 4.0.2 to 3.1.3 as anyone with a 3G knows and feels my pain… ugly for Apple to do this.. regardless, I simply cannot get this phone to unlock again > at least using the ultrasn0w unlock method

    – once I do unlock, the phone recognizes my SIM and carrier and will even accept calls – however I’m unable (so far) to remove this message “Different SIM detected Please connect to iTunes”

    – I have attempted to install Hacktivation Patch, as suggested above, however it will not install since it has a dependancy on Firmware = 3.1.2

    – I have attempted to install Pushfix 2.0 Patch, as suggested elsewhere, however it does not work either

    – I have attempted to manually replace the Lockdown folder in my iPhone in the hopes that would unlock the iPhone – it does not

And so as you can understand why I’m baffled, I’m hoping you might offer an alternative solution which WILL RESOLVE my troubles with unlocking my iPhone 3G so I can sell it!!!!! and move to another platform like Android which will not be as controlling is my wife!

    Thanks for your help!

    Kindly, with gratitude.

I have the same problem with you, iPhone 3G with ios 4.0.2. But replace Lockdown folder solve mine. I use winscp to upload Lockdown folder and set folder permission to 777. May it be helpful .

  • Vicky

Thank you so much DKindaFLESH, I finally managed to get it unlocked…:) You guys rock at these communities…!!

    • DKindaFLESH

I am happy to help. I have been around from 2.0 on. I’m glad I got this great phone and have been jailbreaking forever. I don’t need an unlock but I know about it. I support and recommend jailbreaking. If apple and AT&T continue to impose restrictions on me, I will continue jailbreaking. Sebastien, you have the best iPhone blog out there and continue the great work you and the other writers do. I love you dev team, you guys are the best. Peace out!

    • Mak
