Hardware Fix Coming for the iPhone 4 Antenna in September?

By Guest Author on Aug 31, 2010

iDB reported about the iPhone 4 arriving in Mexico last week. Today Mac Rumors posted an article claiming an executive from Telcel, the mexican iPhone carrier, says the iPhone 4 will be getting a hardware revision once the free case promotion runs out.

Marco Quatorze comments that the policy of giving away free cases will be implemented the same to the rest of the countries selling the iPhone 4. Following September 30th (the date Steve Jobs said Apple would reevaluate the issue) the hardware would be changed to resolve the antenna discrepancies. A bold assumption to say the least… Read More

Lock Your iPhone Screen in Landscape Mode

By Guest Author on Aug 31, 2010

Like many people, I was happy with the release of iOS4. It introduced rotation lock, an awesome feature that locks the rotation of your screen in portrait. Unfortunately, this new rotation lock feature is a little less awesome because it only supports portrait mode.

The good news is there’s a brand new application in the Cydia Store that changes the default behavior to include landscape support, Landscape Rotation Lock. Read More

China’s iPhone Carrier is Offering In-Store Jailbreaking

By Guest Author on Aug 30, 2010

This is definitely going to make uncle Steve angry. TUAW reports that China Unicom is offering to jailbreak their customers iPhones directly from the very store they sell the devices from.

Apparently the staff will gladly hack the apparent iPhone 3GS devices (the iPhone 4 hasn’t been released yet), or cut the SIM card down to fit the micro size on those who have opted to buy an iPhone 4 through alternative outlets. Some stores are even going as far as saying that they will show users how to download 3rd party applications. Wow.  Read More

We’ve already gone over methods for downgrading an iPhone from iOS 4.0.2 to 4.0.1. Unfortunately, this method requires you to have your SHSH blobs on file on Saurik’s server, which some of you don’t have.

There is a post today on the Big Boss blog about how to downgrade from 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 without SHSH blobs, so I thought it might be helful to some of you. Read More

Jailbreak App Lets You Use Your iPhone While It’s Syncing With iTunes

By Guest Author on Aug 30, 2010

The jailbreak community is always exciting. There’s always a new application in development soon to be released to an unsuspecting public. Today, Synchronicity takes the throne. It allows you to use your iPhone while it’s currently synchronizing with iTunes. I’m not sure why Apple disables us by disallowing usage of devices during a sync. Personally, I think Apple should allow this function by default. Read More

In early August iDB reported that Intel was looking at buying chip manufacturer Infineon Technologies. Last night the 1.4 billion dollar acquisition was solidified according to 9 to 5 Mac.

The iPhone App Store Adds “On The Grid” Category & it Looks Like Advertising

By Guest Author on Aug 30, 2010

I must say that I have enjoyed the anticipation that has come with waiting to see which category the App Store will add under their featured apps section. This week I was sorely disappointed by the organization of location-based apps entitled “On The Grid”.

It should come as no surprise that Facebook tops the list after adding their take on the service via Places. Foursquare and Gowalla are next on the list that only sports a dozen entries… Read More

This Might Be the Coolest iPhone Lockscreen Ever

By Sebastien Page on Aug 29, 2010

I found this awesome lockscreen on Cydia yesterday, with a little help from AtomicMufin on Twitter. It’s called TypoPhone 4 and it’s basically a lockscreen theme that shows the time and date in large bold letters. It also contains this cool unlock slider. You can download it from Cydia and activate it with Winterboard.

To have it look exactly like the image above, you’ll also need to download Lockscreen Clock Hide from Cydia, which like the name suggests, hides the clock on your iPhone.

I think that’s an awesome mod and it is without a doubt the coolest iPhone lockscreen I’ve seen so far. Now this thing just needs a little bit of colors to make it perfect.

What do you guys think? You like it?

How to Create Free Ringtones for Your iPhone

By Guest Author on Aug 29, 2010

You either love custom ringtones or you invariably loathe them. You can put me down in the latter category. Nevertheless there are many who love hearing a portion of their favorite jam when someone calls, or assigning certain songs that fit the personality of a specific contact in their address book. If you fit into the group that loves custom alerts, you’re in luck. Read More

Try These Sites If You’re Having Issues With JailbreakMe

By Guest Author on Aug 29, 2010

I usually leave it up to Sebastien to provide our loyal readers with the jailbreak information but I’ll take the reigns this time. PMP Today has posted a couple of alternative sites for those wishing to jailbreak their iPhone after individuals claimed they were having difficulties performing the hack with JailbreakMe.

If you’re among those experiencing troubles with the self titled URL, it is recommended that you try using jailbreakme.com/index.html or accessing the Canadian site of jailbreakme.ca to perform the process. If none of those work for you, you can always try what iDB reader Joe suggested by visiting jailbreakme.com/blob.html from your iPhone. Read More
