How to Save Your SHSH Blob

By , Jul 20, 2010

Save SHSH Blob

With the release of Spirit now imminent, it would be a good thing to save your SHSH blob, in case you need to downgrade in the future. Saving your iPhone SHSH is very simple.

Step 1: Download Firmware Umbrella from here.

Step 2: Launch Firmware Umbrella and plug your iPhone in.

Step 3: Click “Save My SHSH” and wait for Firmware Umbrella to do the job.

Done! A copy will be saved to your computer and it will also send a request to Cydia to save your SHSH on Saurik’s server.

    what about for PCs?

  • Krezack

    There’s a PC version available as well which works just the same. The only problem i’ve seen is for some reason it just doesn’t work with some iPhone 4′s.

  • Ifonechip

    Worked well on my PC no problems. Bring on the jailbreak

  • beakhand

    do i have to upgrade to save my shsh or can i stay on 4.0 and save 4.0.1

  • David

    what are SHSH blobs? just got an iphone 4… :( thanks!

  • DexDD

    You can save 4.0.1 on 4.0 just did it.

  • libag

    can i upgrade to 4.0.1 without saving my 3.1.3 shsh blobs?

    • Christian

      Make sure u save ur blob for 3.1.3 before u upgrade!!! I wish I saved my 3.1.2 before I upgraded to 4.0. My 3G is having many problems with ios4, and I wish I saved my 3.1.2 blobs so I could downgrade.

  • Angel Miranda

    Should I save my 3.1.3 and then upgrade to 4.0.x and save that one also???

    • Christian

      Yes!!!!!

  • SoCoMagNuM

    Im confused. All i can say is i have the iphone4 iOS4 factory. What should i do specifically? Thanks.

  • Chris

    Did this last night and it already shows on cydia that my shsh are saved. Bring on spirit

  • Saice

    Come on spirit I cant stand my unjailbroken iphone anymore :( :(

  • Vik071

    If you did not save previous version of firmware, it is too late now since Apple stopped signing all other versions except 4.0.1. You need to check advanced options and another menu selection will appear underneath with all previous versions. I was able to save 4.0.1 locally but it stil. Does not appear on Cydia…

  • Chris

    @ vic71
    give it time, it will

  • David

    Could someone PLEEEASE tell me what SHSH blobs are? I have an iPhone 4 running 4.0 (don’t wanna update).

    • R1VERFOX

      Download tinyumbrella, connect iPhone, click save shsh, that’s all u need to know :-)

      • David

        Why it takes sooo long?

  • SoCoMagNuM

    @David

    im in the same boat. i understand the purpose but i think since we have iphone4 and 4.0 i think that we cant downgrade. i think this if for 3GS and below. I saved my blob and im also on iOS4. didnt upgrade to 4.0.1.

  • David

    @SoCoMagNuM

    Thanks for the reply! Why did you save your iPhone 4 4.0 blobs if only people using 3GS and below should worry about doing this?

  • SoCoMagNuM

    @David

    Im not sure lol. like i said i think i understand why cause of the whole “window being closed for 4.0″. our devices are at 4.0 so i dont think we can downgrade to anything below 4.0…that includes 3.1.2. my iphone 4 came with 4.0 installed. my 3G also has 4.0 but i never created a blob before so i don think ill be downgrading that either. maybe with a little research but basically my 3G is a ipod/gaming device for my girlfriend. has no cellular service but its still jailbroken

  • David

    @SoCoMagNuM

    I got this reply from someone in another post:

    [as a 4.0 user,] you should be concerned because appl only signs firmware for limited time and thts the only time u hav to forge the signature and you need signature for dwngrade so if you jailbreak ever messes up you can restore a jailbreakable firmwAre instead of having to upgrade to newest the shsh you hav saved will be the only means tht allow you to restore to older firmware versions.

    SoCo: I think you said you already saved your blob, so good for you! Hope it’s not too late for me.

  • SoCoMagNuM

    @Brian

    yeah i saved mines this morning. whenever i wanted to rejailbreak i didnt know about the shsh blobs so i always ended up just upgrading to newest firmware. im still at 4.0 on my iphone4. as long as i can jailbreak my iphone and get back qtweeter, SBSettings, fxtones, 3g unrestrictor, and possibly myfi ill be fine. im worried if i use tethering on iphone4 that they will charge the extra fee (at&t) though it will be through jailbreak program. ill hold off on that and let someone else try that out.

  • justin

  • Loveitman

    Just purchased an iPhone 4 with 4.0.2 firmware already installed. Is there a way to downgrade to 4.0.1 or lower. I saved my SHSH but it’s 4.0.2… I’ve requested SHSH’s from Cydia and. Was able to retrieve 3.1.3 but I still get errors when I attempt to downgrade (3002 to be exact). Any assistance would be appreciated.

  • Omar

    Can i get the shsh blop if i didnt save them from the begining ? Is there a way to downgrade without it?

  • Heinrich

    By pointing my HOSTS file to Cydia servers,I was able to downgrade my 3GS from 4.0.2 fw 5.13.04 to 4.0.1. I then restored an old backup I had and jailbroke it :) Apparently my blobs were saved on the Cydia servers (thank you so much Guys) and I didn’t know it. I am soooo so happy and thankful.

    • Frank

      You cannot unlock for your basband: 05.14.02. As of today, there is no unlock available for it yet. You’ll have to wait until one is availabe. For now, you are stuck with the defauli carrier.

      PS: I didn’t know they lock carrier in India. I thought that only happens in North America and Australia and Great Britain.

    i have my jail broken 3gs backed on my itunes and i just got the iphone 4 but don’t have my 3gs. can i save the shsh blobs from itunes some how?

  • Brian

    I wish I would have known abt shsh blobs when I got my iPod touch 2g.. It was at 3.1.3 when I got it. I jailbroke and played w it. Installous didn’t work right and someone said upgrading to 4.0 would fix that. I upgraded to 4.0 immediately and jailbroke. I wish the person would have mentioned without shsh blobs (unique to each idevice) theres no hope of downgrade.. I’ve been having wifi problems and cydia problems ever since. For some ppl it works fine tho. It

  • Roy

    Could I downgrade my iphone even without the saved SHSH blobs?? I really don’t care if everything gets erased.

  • Kev

    I just bought an IPhone 4 a week ago, I want to jailbreak it but I’m not sure I’m understanding everything involved. I tried jailbreakme and it says I need to downgrade my system to 4.0 but then it says it’s probably impossible. So first can I jailbreak my phone? If so where should I start? Also how would I downgrade?

  • yeah

    what is the whole point of the shsh blob. why can’t you just download the old firmware, hold shift and alt and click restore and load the old firmware in?

    what does the shsh blob do? I’m simply just trying to downgrade from a 4.1 to 4.0.2, what’s this shsb blob thing about?

  • Jimmy

    For all those who don’t know what SHSH Blobs do, I will say it with a few simple words.

    If SHSH Blobs are saved: Your firmware ex. 3.1.3 can be restored on your iPhone as many times you want, even if Apple doesn’t support it anymore. *Cydia* does it. :-)

    Anyway, I’m using iPhone 3G 8GB on iOS 4.1 and now am trying to find a way to enable HDR and Game Center. At least HDR if possible but until now as I see noone achieved it manually through .plist file.

    • Utkarsh

      Cheers mate. That was very very helpful. Finally I got to know the importance of SHSH in very simple words.

  • Cx_beast

    Ahh I hope it will work :( been having loads of trouble!

  • Utkarsh

    I thought with SHSH we can upgrade the current firmware by preserving the BaseBand.

  • mhz

    Heya people.
    I got a iPhone 3G
    4.2.1
    firmware: 05.15.04

    I do NOT have the old SHSH saved, possible for me to downgrade back to 3.1.3? I wanna downgrade since iOS 4 really made my phone slow as hell.

    My phone is unlocked from my operator.

    I appreciate GOOD answers from people with knowledge.

    Thanks!
