Spirit Jailbreak Released

Spirit, the userland jailbreak for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad is finally available. We’ve been waiting for Spirit for quite a while now. It was supposed to be released last Friday but Comex, its developer, decided to wait a few more days to make sure new iPad 3G owners would have time save their SHSH blobs, but also to finish up Spirit and make sure it was 100% reliable.

For the occasion, Comex developed a new website for Spirit at www.SpiritJB.com where you can download the Windows and Mac version. Note that at the time I am writing this, my antivirus keeps flagging Spirit as a trojan. Besides, the site is very slow due to an overwhelming amount of traffic.

UPDATE: I turned off my antivirus and downloaded Spirit. It is 100% safe.

Things worth noting about Spirit:

  • Spirit is an untethered jailbreak for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, and 3.2
  • Your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad must be activated
  • Your device must not be stuck on the Connect to iTunes logo or emergency call screen
  • It will work on any version of iTunes 9 (including 9.1.1)
  • Spirit will not unlock your iPhone
  • If you are currently using a tethered jailbreak, you have to restore in order to use Spirit
  • Do not upgrade if you unlocked your iPhone 3G or 3GS (if you have the SHSH blobs for 3.1.2, you can restore to it)
  • While Spirit is stable for all devices, your iPad may act a little funny due to packages that have not been updated for it yet

Comex did a great job on that one. Congrats!

    Awesome!! Did both my wifi ipad and my 3gs 3.13 mc!! Now I have mywifi for a hotspot for my ipad!!

    Ok call me crazy but I’m trying to restore to a clean, Apple version of 3.1.3 so I can run Spirit on it and now iTunes its telling me my iPhone cannot be restored. WTF!?!?

    Makes me wonder… Is Apple trying to disrupt the code for 3.1.3 or working on a patch already?

    Like I said… call me crazy… UGH! >:/

    OK people!!! Here’s my feedback:

    Spirit wasn’t working for me. Gave me the c0000005 error, so I changed the compatibility of Spirit to Windows 98/Me (I’m running Windows 7) as per p0sixninja’s suggestion.

    I tried to restore to a clean version of 3.1.3 as normal through iTunes and it passes the verification process with Apple, but then the phone would not restore and would give me an error, so I decided to change the host file to “74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com” so I can use my SHSH Blobs from Cydia. Phone restored just fine!!

    Finally ran Spirit on my phone and voilà! Jailbroken!!

    P.S. SAVE YOUR FREAKING SHSH’s!!!!!

    I have jailbroke my iphone 3gs 3.1.3 but after that 3 original apps like appstore,calculator n compass were missing..what should I do now???should I restore back to original setting thru
    itunes n jailbreak again??

    How the hell do I get cydia on my phone? I did the jailbreak and it worked perfectly but it’s just as useless as having no jailbreak at all :/

    It didn’t work for me. I am running Vista, went to the compatibility and changed it to Win 98/me. When I try to run it as an administrator, the spirit program does not run. Tried it about 5 times, it only boots up when I take the compatibility off, but it gives me a error 0000005. Please help.

    so can anyone (using at&t in the US) now use their iphone tethered as a modem again? I know their are plenty of jailbreaks for 3.1.2 users that enable this but as an unlucky guy who is stuck with 3.1.3 ( was forced to restore after a crash) i sure would love to be able to tether again. Any one have luck with this? Nobody has answered this HUGE question or listed yes or no in the features of what this does.

    Jon: NO, native tethering does not appear to work with the spirit jailbreak and either benm or peacefulinsanity phone profiles (this is for at&t usa activated) :/ I was able to get PDAnet working (both wireless and usb) although its annoyingly flakey and i’d perfer a better solution myself…. ideas anyone?

    after reading these comments I’m scared to do anything. first of all where do i get the good stuff (3rd party apps) from when i jailbreak and I’m not sure if i can unlock my 3.1.3 iphone. I’m a t-mobile customer. I’m running on windows 98 if that matters. P.S. don’t want to be stuck and missed up. I love my iphone that i don’t use as a phone.

    I did the J/B and im on 3.1.3 firmware 5.12.1 new bootrom and my stock icons were missing. i restore and did the jailbreak again and my icons were back but now its so slow it takes way to long to load any stocks apps can anyone help!!!

    has anyone else noticed on the iphone 3gs 3.1.3 mc model after the spirit jailbreak that if you turn off the phone it wont turn back on just stays at the apple logo but if you download somthin in cydia and it says you have to restart your phone that it restarts it but it fully turns on not like i seid before when it just stays at boot up just wonderin if anyone else has noticed

    I’m using an iPhone 3G, 3.1.3 with 5.12 baseband. Jailbroke with Spirit, works fine. Interestingly, I’ve added NO new programs through Cydia yet, and internet tethering works fine on my phone. Typing this on my iMac tethered via bluetooth to my phone right now. I didn’t do anything other than go to settings/general/network and turn on internet tethering, then pair computer to phone via bluetooth? Is no one else able to do this?

    Forgot to mention that I’m on AT&T in the US. Apple website says this is unavailable in US, but it’s been working on mine since Spirit JB!

    hey i just jailbroke my ipod 2nd gen mc model and it worked geat the only problem was that i had already jailbroken my ipod and restored it because cydia wouldn’t open and i hope that it wont do it again does anyone know what went wrong? please email me at xoswimstar1993@aol.com

    I have set compatibility mode to windows 95 98 a few when ever I run the program it stays dl.exe has quit what is going wrong and how do I fix it also. Says something about a bad dll file my computer is currently broken so i have to use my iPod touch as a computer and I have to use my sisters windows vista computer to jail break it I want to jail break my iPod touch so I can get more use out of my iPod touch and make it more functional so I can use it as a short term replacement for a computer please help me jail break it I realy need it
