How to Jailbreak Your iPhone or iPad With Spirit

Spirit has to be the easiest and quickest jailbreak ever. JailbreakMe was fast, but Spirit takes it to a whole new level. I’m not really sure a Spirit tutorial or guide is necessary because it is so simple…

Before thinking about jailbreaking your iDevice with Spirit, there are a few requirements that you need to know about. Please head over to this post I wrote earlier to read the “fine prints” and make sure you know exactly what you’re doing.

I wrote this guide by jailbreaking my iPad using Spirit but the steps are exactly identical for the iPod Touch and iPhone. Steps are also identical whether you’re on a Mac or PC.

Note that Spirit is a jailbreak for every device. It will NOT unlock your iPhone.

How to jailbreak your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad with Spirit

Step 1: Download Spirit from our download page.

Step 2: Make sure you have at least version 9 of iTunes.

Step 3: Back up your iPhone, iTouch or iPad in iTunes, just in case something goes wrong.

Step 4: Launch Spirit.

Step 5: Click “Jailbreak”.

Step 6: Wait just a few seconds until you see this image:

Step 7: Your iPhone will reboot and you should have the Cydia icon on your springboard.

Congrats, you just jailbroke your iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad using Spirit.

Errors & Troubleshooting

Windows Vista or Windows 7 users may get the error c0000005.

To avoid this error, you have to run Spirit.exe in compatibility mode. To do so:

  • Right click on Spirit.exe and select Properties
  • Select the compatibility tab
  • Check the “Run this program in compatibility mode for” box and select Windows 98 / Windows ME

    That TSS will get signed by the cydia sever don’t worry it just means that you can downgrade your iPhone if you update by mistake.
    Best thing to do is try google.
    There is alot that you need to learn about your 3Gs and how to downgrade the firmware if you need to.
    Just remember when 4.0 comes out from apple is that you don’t upgrade untill jailbreak software can jailbreake it.
    There will be more than lightly be a post on This blog site on when it it ok
    again try google about how to downgrade and what is TSS / SHSH

    I tried this, did all the correct things, even saved my SHSH file. When i plugged in my ipod touch in recovery mode, with spirit running, it STILL said “Please connect device.” PLEASE HELP!!!!

    I downloaded the Spirit for windows, and it says that My ipod is not supported. Someone please, please help me. I have been to so many sites, and so many downloads. I just want to have my ipod jailbroken. I have an Ipod touch 16GB, and I really need help with this. Please, please. I have asked so many people, and Its very diffitcult, please help.     For people who are jailbreaking but no cydia icon appearing…….

    I know it sounds wierd but try moving spirit.exe to your desktop (mine was in c:\download and not working)

    Moved it and i worked first time. Another person got it working by running in compatability mode ‘windows 95′

    Hi, I don’t know if anyone has asked this or not but I’m having a problem. I have an iPhone 3gs 3.1.3 and I ran Spirit JB and it was working just fine until it restarted the phone and brought it to the Spirit JB splash loading screen and it just had the spinning wheel for a while and nothing happened, I restored the phone and tried it again and the same thing happened, is there anything that I’m doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

    Hey @Galia,

    I got mine to work. Basically I just retried and it worked, back up all your files first, then go and do a clean restore on your iPhone, don’t restore from backup just yet. Once you get to the homescreen go ahead and run Spirit Jailbreak, and if it works, it’ll do it under 20 seconds, if it doesn’t work the first time, just keep trying and soon enough it’ll work, for me it took 3 tries. After it jailbreaks, you can go ahead and restore from backup. Hope that helps.

    So ran spirit several days ago and worked like a charm. Just started really enjoying the whole jailbroke. Running a couple new apps, sinful, mywi ect. Yesterday afternoon iphone went to no sim. Rebooted and back to normal. This morn was talking and all of the sudden dropped call. And no sim message was up. Rebooted was fine for about 30 seconds and then boom no sim. Every reboot no sim.

    used spirit…really easy…. wicked program. just one question…….if i download apps off a torrent site and try to put them onto my iphone 16gb 3gs they wont go on. why is this and how can i get around the problem?

    i did it all well on my imac but now it has the loading bar on my ipod touch screen and the circle that looks like a gear…… i have been waiting for like 20 mins and it is still stuck on that.. help?

    I see a lot different websites with jb info but I am a bit scared as I new to this scenario

    If something goes wrong/error can I go back to factory installation setting

    Used Jailbreak iPhone 3G 3.1.3 with Spirit and after a week Wifi stopped to work (its not grayed – seems to be on, but does not see any networks).

    Settings>>General>>Reset>>Reset Network Settings does not work
    After few (like 5 or 6) reboots wifi worked a while, but now im not able to make it work again :-(

    Any advice?

    that happened to me just before with the ipad.

    i decided to hold onto the menu button and the power button for around 10 secs to reset itself. i then turned it on again via the power button and voila, all perfect now.

    the device is now jailbroken, and no issues.

    for some reason, the screen/gear thing will just keep staying there until i did that. i suggest doing what i did to get it working :)

    Spirit unlocked my iphone 3G on 5.12.01 in a few seconds!
    I’m using windows 7, and followed the compatibility mode instructions.
    Then the phone restarts, and I go to Cydia… and it updated.
    Then I searched for ultrasn0w via Cydia, inserted my T-mobile SIM card, and it activated!

    Hi all,

    Just jailbreak mine 3g 313 with spirit at windows 7. Everything is fine, cydia appears in the springboard. Try to install cycorder but still running/queing for almost 15 minutes. Is it normal ??
