It didn’t take too long for  the jailbreak community to come up with a jailbreak for the iPad. Last week I told you about Spirit, a jailbreak for iPhone 3.1.3, and today, MuscleNerd confirmed the iPad jailbreak using a variation of Spirit, originally developed by Comex.

Even better news is that this jailbreak can also be applied to every platform including the iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 3G, and potentially to the iPad 3G.

Credit goes where it’s due. This iPad jailbreak is a cross-team effort by @chronicdevteam, @comex, @chpwn, and the Dev Team.

If you were on the fence about buying an iPad, this might just be the reason you were looking for.

There is no estimated release date for this jailbreak. My guess is that these smart hackers will wait for iPhone OS 3.2, so Apple doesn’t patch the firmware and render this jailbreak useless.

How exciting!

And now comes the waiting game. 🙂

    Friggin’ sweet!

Damn they should just wait to release this stuff till the new iPhone and os 4.0 comes out

  • Ernesto

What if apple does a bunch of changes in the OS3.2 that makes this jailbreak worthless??
Then the dev team will realize that they just should’ve released this jailbreak.

    Sweat!

I want my jailbreak now 🙁 Can someone tell me the point in holding off as Apple will always release updates so either way Apple will counter the jailbreak…

  • greytone

The point of holding off, as I understand it, is that apple won’t necessarily know their vulnerability until the break is released. So if they wait until after an apple update then we all get the most longevity out of the exploit.

  • Robzy

Ah okay! I get it now! It does still seem rather risky though as Apple could counter the jailbreak in the next update. I’d much rather wait though and hope 4.0 can be jail broken! 🙂

I would buy an ipad if a jailbreak was made public. Until then I see myself waiting for the second gen ipad, waiting till all the bugs are workedou. Of this freshman product.

The iPad comes stock with 3.2 firmware. So what’s the hold up?
