RedSn0w 0.9: iPhone 3.1.2 Jailbreak Available

By Sebastien Page on Jan 31, 2010

RedSn0w 0.9 is officially out of beta and is now available to everyone who wants to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2. RedSn0w had been in beta testing for a couple of weeks now and the Dev Team worked on fixing the bugs. Apparently, this release is now completely bulletproof.

This release of RedSn0w supports all iPhone and iPod Touch models (still a tethered-only JB for late-model devices though) and runs fine on Windows and Mac OSX.

At first, this version of RedSn0w was supposed to include the IPCC tethering hack but it seems it was causing issues so it was removed at the last minute.

I was a little confused about the baseband situation so I asked MuscleNerd directly. Here is what he has to say:

redsn0w itself doesn’t update the firmware, or the baseband. It just works with whatever firmware is there and ignores the baseband. redsn0w happens to know about both 3.0 and 3.1.2 firmwares, so it can jailbreak (or add logos, etc) to either.

ultrasn0w right now is only for baseband 04.26. If you have baseband 04.26 on 3.0 (which you normally would at that FW version), then that works fine for ultrasn0w. If you have baseband 04.26 on 3.1.2 (you got there through a custom IPSW), then that works fine for ultrasn0w too. And in both cases, redsn0w can be used to jailbreak, get Cydia, and install ultrasn0w.

However if you somehow have baseband 05.11 on firmware 3.0 (you went up to 3.1.2 then tried to come back down), ultrasn0w won’t do the unlock, even though redsn0w will work fine. And if you have baseband 05.11 on firmware 3.1.2 (you did a stock apple restore/update), then ultrasn0w won’t work there either.

I recently wrote a tutorial on how to use RedSn0w to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2. Check it out if you want to jailbreak your iPhone using RedSn0w, which you can get from our iPhone downloads page.

What You Missed About the iPhone and iPad This Week

By Sebastien Page on Jan 31, 2010

This week was pretty heavy on news, especially due to Apple finally announcing the iPad.

Here is a summary of all the articles that were published on the blog this past week. If you like any of those articles, please make sure to leave a comment, or share them on Twitter.

Happy Sunday everyone :)

I Told You So! This is How Much I Was Right About the iPad

By Sebastien Page on Jan 30, 2010

A few days ago I wrote an article about my predictions for Apple’s event and the launch of the iPad. While everybody was busy spreading rumors, I preferred telling what I thought was going to happen.

In this article, I’d like to quickly go over my 5 predictions and how much I was right (or wrong in one case).

1. I was right about the name

I told you that there was no way Apple would ever call it iSlate. While I didn’t say it was going to be called iPad (even though I did mention the name), I went against mainstream blogs who believed it was going to be called the iSlate.

2. I was right about the OS

People were trashing me on Twitter for being so “naive” because I didn’t think we would be introduced to OS 4.0. I was right when I said that the tablet would originally run OS 3.2. Come on people, it’s just good common sense! The top seller is still the iPhone and they can’t spoil June’s new iPhone announcement for a new product like the iPad.

3. I was right about the launch date

Unlike many people, I predicted that the tablet wouldn’t be available right away. I was right when I said it wouldn’t be available for a few month (I went as far as saying it would be April, although this wasn’t part of the prediction). Why it makes sense? Just good marketing sense: iPhones come out in July, iPods come out in September, I don’t know about that but I’m sure Apple has something going out in December, and now they have something in March/April. Every quarter they have new products coming out. Enough to keep their marketing peeps busy all year long.

4. I was almost right about the network

I am mad at myself on this one. I listened to my heart when I should have listened to my head. If you read my predictions, I was very hesitant to take a stance on this. I chose Verizon because I thought it would make sense marketing-wise. Now that I think about it, it was stupid of me not to pick AT&T because it does make lots of sense (GSM > CDMA).

5. I was right about the iPhone and AT&T

The rumors went wild that AT&T would lose the iPhone’s exclusivity. Again, I went against everybody else and not only did I predict we wouldn’t hear anything about the iPhone, but I also said that AT&T would remain the iPhone’s exclusive carrier.

I told you that if I were right about these predictions, I would be in your face. So here I am :)

If you want more predictions from me, you may want to check my 10 predictions for the iPhone in 2010.

By the way, I expect apologies from those of you who called me stupid on Twitter. Just kidding. Call me anything you want, but don’t call me wrong!

16 Reasons the iPad Sucks

By Sebastien Page on Jan 29, 2010

The iPad sucks! That’s what I said to myself after watching Steve Jobs reveal what was said to be the most important device of his career. I felt let down! I expected so much more from this tablet. Maybe I expected too much from it. The iPhone has set the bar so high that we are now used to being amazed and surprised by Apple. This announcement sure was a reality check!

The general opinion about the iPad is not as good as good as Apple probably expected. I ran a poll yesterday on the blog (take it if you haven’t yet). The majority of you was pretty disappointed and didn’t even think they would buy an iPad when it’s for sale in a couple months.

There is no shortage of reasons why the iPad sucks. Let’s go over some of them here.

The name sucks! The first thing my fiancee told me about the iPad? “Honey, I think I’m getting my iPeriod, do you have an iPad for me?” It doesn’t take a marketing genius to figure out that the iPad is a terrible name for a product. I plan to write a blog post about the worst jokes ever about the iPad so if you have some funny ones, please email them to me.

The network sucks! While I personally don’t have any problem with AT&T, most people don’t agree with me, so I guess it’s fair to say that sticking with AT&T was not the right decision for Apple. They could have gone with T-Mobile, or Verizon (even though I think the iPad or iPhone will never ever go to Verizon) and everybody would be happy. Apple is not a company that aims at making people happy though. It aims at making Steve happy!

No Flash! Alex of Applicious says it all: No Flash on the iPhone was barely tolerable. On a device that you call Internet-specific to not have Flash is more than annoying, it’s insulting. Flash, love it or hate it, is one huge slice of the Internet. This is not optional.

No multitasking! During his presentation of the iPad, Steve Jobs called netbook cheap laptops. Guess what Steve, I might have a “cheap laptop” but I’m currently typing this post on it with 2 Firefox windows opened, TweetDeck, a Word Document and Flickr Uploader running at the same time. Can your iPad do that? Netbooks are fulfilling a need. The iPad is not. It’s just struggling to create a one. Not having multitasking on the iPad really sucks.

No camera! If you’re going to create a mobile device for Mom and Pops, you’d better give it at least a front facing camera because Mom sure loves to Skype her daughter. I didn’t expect a back-facing camera on the iPad, but I sure hoped for a front-facing one.

It’s big! Of course it’s big, it’s the purpose of it. Still, I’m confused. Does Apple have to license plus-size pockets as an official iPad accessory?

It’s heavy! At 1.5 Lbs, I don’t think you’re gonna be able to hold this baby for 2 hours without developing a tendinitis.

No Video Output! If you thought about plugging your iPad in your TV to watch a slideshow of your latest vacation’s pictures, then think again because it’s not going to happen.

It’s not pretty! Let’s be honest for a minute, the big fat bezel around the touchscreen is ugly.

The keyboard sucks! I didn’t expect the iPad to have a physical keyboard but that won’t prevent me from complaining about it. I hate typing on my iPhone and something tells me I’ll hate typing on the iPad even more because it simply isn’t convenient. When I type on a keyboard, I like to have the screen facing me, not laying down flat because it is unpractical and in the long run, it will most likely cause pain in the neck and back (I’m serious).

No USB port! Did you want to plug your digital camera into your iPad to download your pictures. Too bad. Oh wait, you’ll actually be able to if you buy the $30 adapter Apple will be selling. That is mafia-style racketing.

No 16:9! Watching movies on the iPad is going to suck as it will render the movies in 4:3 aspect ratio with big black bars around it.

No Widgets! Ok, the iPad screen is huge but it actually feels empty. Why don’t we have widgets on this thing? Sticky notes, calculator, whatever widget?

The battery sucks! I don’t believe Apple when they say the iPad has a battery life of 10 hours. They were praising the iPhone 3GS battery. I still can’t get through the day without plugging mine in. Play NFS on your iPad for one hour, do a little bit of web browsing for 2 hours, and I bet you your battery will be dead before you can update your Facebook status.

The storage limitation sucks! Starting at 16GB, this is a complete joke. If you want me to store my music, videos and photos on your iPad (all this in top of my applications), I’m going to need MUCH more space than the 64GB limit.

Reading books on the iPad sucks! The Kindle might not be dead yet after all. I dare you to read a book on your iPad for more than 2 hours. By that time, your eyes will be crying, you’ll most likely have a headache and feel tired. That’s what computer screen do to you. I’m not a big fan of ebooks (I like the smell and feel of books – call me old school) but I do believe the e-ink feature of the Kindle is much better than what we’ll get on the iPad.

What do you think? Do you think Apple underdelivered with the iPad? Please share your thoughts in the comment section.

Poll: What Do You Think About The iPad?

By Sebastien Page on Jan 28, 2010

In my overview of the iPad yesterday, I said that I was not impressed by this new tablet. To me the iPad is nothing more than a giant iPod Touch with very few (if any) features that would make me get the line on launch day. That doesn’t mean I don’t see potential in it. That also doesn’t mean I won’t buy one…

There were some interesting comments on my iPad coverage but I’d like to go further and try to “quantify” your feelings about it. I created 2 mini polls that should take about 30 seconds of your time. Please tell us what you think about the iPad and whether or not you plan to buy one.

If you’d like to share your thoughts more in details, please feel free to leave a comment.

Everything You Need to Know About the iPad

By Sebastien Page on Jan 27, 2010

As usual, Apple event started with Steve Jobs throwing some big numbers in our face: 250 million iPods sold, 284 retail stores that saw over 250 million visitors, 140,000 apps, 3 billion applications downloaded, all this wrapped in some exciting adjectives such as “amazing”, “exciting”, “wonderful”, “phenomenal”, “incredible”, etc… Uncle Steve sure knows how to warm up a crowd!

Let’s cut to the chase. Here is everything you need to know about the iPad. Read More

Predictions For Tomorrow’s Apple Event

By Sebastien Page on Jan 26, 2010

I’m glad Apple will finally unveil its new iSlate, iTab, iPad, or whatever it will be called tomorrow because I cannot stand all these “rumors” and “leaks” anymore.

Within the last few weeks every Apple-related blog has been leaking some rumors that are mostly unfounded and that only serve one goal: generating traffic to their sites. I don’t know if you noticed, but I didn’t post such article once because I don’t want to drag my lovely readers (that’s you) into these pointless conversations.

These websites spreading the rumors or leaks seldom make predictions though. They don’t, because predictions are your own opinions and they can be held accountable for them in case they are wrong.

I like to make predictions. Unlike most major iPhone blogs out there, I don’t have an editor watching over my shoulder and I can say whatever I want. If I am wrong, well, I’m wrong. The world doesn’t stop! If I’m right though (which I usually am), then no big deal either; I’ll just be in your face saying “I told you so” ;)

I made 10 predictions for the iPhone in 2010 at the beginning of the month and I stand behind these. Today, I’d like to make 5 predictions for tomorrow’s Apple event.

1. The Tablet Name

First things first. The name of this tablet. The rumors call it the iSlate. I really think iSlate is a terrible name. It just doesn’t sound right. To me it sounds like some torture instrument used by Iraqi insurgents. I have no idea what it could be called but my prediction is that it will not be called the iSlate. Apple has much more class than that.

2. The OS

Everyone is excited about OS 4.0. See, the iPhone OS and the tablet OS are pretty much the same so releasing OS 4.0 for the tablet tomorrow would mean releasing OS 4.0 for the iPhone too. Then what would Apple have to unveil for the iPhone in June? Just new hardware? No! I predict that the tablet will run OS 3.2. OS 4.0 will not be available until June or July of this year, when Apple announces the new iPhone.

3. The Launch Date

Don’t expect to get yourself a tablet anytime for the next few months. While many people think the tablet will be available for sale right away, I predict it won’t be available for a few months. If I had to give a date, I would say April 2010.

4. The Network

I’m really not sure about this one but I think Apple will go with Verizon. My heart tells me Apple will choose Verizon, but my head tells me they want to stick with AT&T. Which one should I listen to? Ok, I have to make a decision, I say Verizon!

5. AT&T’s iPhone Exclusivity

There has been many rumors saying that AT&T will lose the iPhone exclusivity tomorrow. I don’t think so. I believe this event is about the tablet, not the iPhone. Even if Apple chooses Verizon for the tablet, it doesn’t mean it will drop AT&T for the iPhone. I believe that after tomorrow, AT&T will remain the exclusive iPhone carrier in the US.

Enough with that I think. Now I want to hear what YOU think. If you think I’m wrong, please explain why. If you have more predictions to make, please feel free to share with us by leaving a comment below.

Turn Your iPhone Into An Aquarium

By Sebastien Page on Jan 25, 2010

We’ve already established that your iPhone can do pretty much anything, but did you know you can use your iPhone as an aquarium? Or, to be more precise, your can turn your iPhone lockscreen into an aquarium…

There is a new Cydget available in Cydia called Aquarium that turns the boring iPhone lock screen into a fish tank with five animated fish swimming around. I first spotted this via Simon Blog.

The Aquarium cydget is available from Cydia Store for US$1. To install it, just launch cydia and search for Aquarium Cydget. Once installed, you can activate by tapping “Setting” -> “Cydget” -> “Lock Cydget Order” and select “Aquarium”. Now click the Home button and the Aquarium cydget will be loaded in the lock screen.

I don’t know how bad this Cydget is for your battery life but I think it’s still a pretty nice trick. Note that to install this you will have to first install Cydget from Cydia.

I’m just starting to get into Cydgets. Do you have any good ones to recommend? If so, please share them by leaving a comment below.

Jailbreak Your iPhone 3.1.2 Using Sn0wBreeze

By Sebastien Page on Jan 23, 2010

I had heard several times about Sn0wBreeze but I never really paid attention to it because it seemed to be one of these tools that would never get out of beta. I was wrong!

Today I received a couple emails from readers of the blog with more info about Sn0wBreeze, and Thomas even sent me a pretty detailed tutorial (thanks Thomas).

Sn0wBreeze is a jailbreaking tool developed by some underground developer and from what I understand, it’s pretty much a rip off of Dev Team’s PwnageTool, except it works on Windows. As a side note, it’s important to highlight that the Dev Team came up with an update to RedSn0w (see RedSn0w tutorial here).

Just like PwnageTool, Sn0wBreeze will create a custom firmware for iPhone OS 3.1.2. This is the perfect solution for people who want to upgrade to OS 3.1.2 without updating their baseband.

I haven’t tried this myself but as I said above, I got reports from 2 different people that it works flawlessly. Obviously, you should be cautious if using Sn0wBreeze…

This version of Sn0wbreeze only supports the iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS (non MC) as well as the iPod touch 1G and 2G (non MC) so far.

This step-by-step guide and tutorial will show you how to jailbreak your iPhone 3.1.2 by creating a custom firmware with Sn0wBreeze.

Step 1: Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your PC. If not, download and install it, then reboot your PC.

Step 2: Download Sn0wBreeze as well as the right firmware 3.1.2 for your device from our download page. To make things easier, I suggest you place these 2 files on your desktop.

Step 3: Launch Sn0wBreeze and select “Simple Mode”.

Step 4: SnowBreeze will then ask you to browse for your IPSW file. Click “Browse” and select the 3.1.2 IPSW file you downloaded to your desktop in Step 2.

Step 5: Sn0wBreeze will then verify your IPSW. Click Next to continue.

Step 6: Sn0wBreeze will now ask you if you want to activate your iPhone. If you are on an official carrier (ie. AT&T in the US), say no. If you are not on an official carrier, then click yes.

Step 7: SnowBreeze will now create the custom firmware for your iPhone.

Step 8: Now launch iTunes and we will restore your iPhone using the custom cooked firmware we just created. To do so, hit the SHIFT key on your keyboard while clicking on RESTORE. It’s very important that you hold the SHIFT key while clicking! iTunes will ask you the location of the firmware you want to use to restore your iPhone. Browse for the custom IPSW (most likely on your desktop) and select it.

Step 9: Your iPhone will now be restored using the custom firmware. This might take a while so don’t stress out.

Done! You have successfully jailbroken your iPhone using Sn0wBreeze. Next step for you might be to unlock your iPhone. Follow this guide to figure out how to unlock your iPhone, depending on what model you have.

Your iPhone Can Hurt You!

By Sebastien Page on Jan 22, 2010

You use your iPhone everyday for pretty much anything. You use it to check your emails, make phone calls, send text messages and even play video games. If you’re like me, you probably consider your iPhone as your best friend gadget.

Well, I’ve got news for you. Your iPhone is not your friend! Your iPhone might actually cause you some severe injuries. You don’t believe me? Check out this NY Times article (spotted via TUAW) that states that over 1,000 people found themselves in emergency rooms in 2008 because they were distracted while walking.

Examples of such visits include a 16-year-old boy who walked into a telephone pole while texting and suffered a concussion; a 28-year-old man who tripped and fractured a finger on the hand gripping his cellphone; and a 68-year-old man who fell off the porch while talking on a cellphone, spraining a thumb and an ankle and causing dizziness.

That’s pretty funny if you ask me, but for the purpose of this article, I will pretend it’s an important matter…

Of course, this applies to any phone user but iPhone owners are more likely to be diverted by one of the thousands of engaging applications available.

Personally, I don’t use my iPhone while walking in the street. I’ll occasionally look at an incoming SMS but I don’t do any gaming, web browsing, or emailing while walking. Same applies with driving.

I’m currently in Bali and it’s crazy here to see the kids texting while driving their scooters on overcrowded roads. These kids sure know how to multitask…

Have you ever had any accident while playing or using your iPhone? If you have any story, please share it with us in the comments.

Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with RedSn0w 0.9

By Sebastien Page on Jan 21, 2010

This guide and tutorial will show you how to jailbreak your iPhone 2G, 3G or 3GS running OS 3.1.2 using RedSn0w 0.9.

If you are new to the whole jailbreaking thing, I really suggest you read this information about RedSn0w 0.9. It will tell you everything you need to know about RedSn0w before starting.

I know that some of you won’t bother reading the more info link about RedSn0w 0.9 so here is probably the most important information about this jailbreak:

If you have a late-model iPhone 3GS, or if you have an iPod touch 2G whose serial number begins with “MC”, you can use redsn0w to jailbreak but you are currently restricted to “tethered” rebooting. That means you need to connect your device to a computer to complete the boot after a reset. Also, these devices cannot have custom logos.

redsn0w will ask you whether or not you fit in this category when used with the iPhone 3GS or iPod touch 2G. If you have a late-model device and don’t give redsn0w the correct answer, you will likely need to do a system restore to recover from the mistake.

To do a tethered boot after your late-model device resets for some reason, either run redsn0w again and select “Just boot tethered right now”, or run blackra1n.

This RedSn0w tutorial was written for Windows but I assume the steps are identical for a Mac.

Step 1: Download RedSn0w 0.9 for Mac or PC as well as the correct 3.1.2 firmware for your iPhone from here. To make things easy, save those 2 files on your desktop.

Step 2: Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer, then restore your iPhone to the latest firmware 3.1.2. Restoring is the preferred way to go about it as simply updating could cause issues later on.

Step 3: Launch RedSn0w and browse for the 3.1.2 firmware you downloaded to your computer in Step 1.

Step 4: RedSn0w will automatically check if you chose the right firmware (IPSW). It will then patch the file.

Step 5: For iPhone 2G only (other please skip to step 6)! You will then be offered several options. If you have an iPhone 2G and you want to unlock, now select “Install Cydia” and “Unlock”. You will have to download the bootloaders 3.9 and 4.6 from here. If you just want to jailbreak, disregard this and go to step 6.

Step 6: You will now have the option to “Install Cydia” as well as “Custom boot logo” and “Custom recovery logo”. For the purpose of this tutorial, I suggest you only choose “Install Cydia”.

Step 7: Make sure your iPhone is plugged to your computer. RedSn0w will now dictate you a few steps to have your iPhone enter DFU mode. Follow the onscreen instructions very carefully.

Step 8: Your iPhone will reboot when successfully jailbroken.

Congratulations! You just jailbroke your iPhone using RedSn0w 0.9. If you want to unlock your iPhone 3G or 3GS, simply install UltraSn0w from Cydia.

Any question or concern, please feel free to ask in the comment section below. Happy jailbreak :)

UPDATE: People have encountered quite a bit of problems when running RedSn0w o.9 beta 3 with an iPhone 3GS. Thankfully MuscleNerd has been updating RedSn0w and the 3GS issues should now be gone.  You can download the latest RedSn0w from our iPhone downloads page.

RedSn0w 0.9 iPhone Jailbreak Released

By Sebastien Page on Jan 21, 2010

Just a few hours ago, MuscleNerd tweeted about the release of the long-awaited RedSn0w jailbreak for iPhone 3.1.2. This version of RedSn0w is actually a beta version (redsn0w 0.9beta3) but it seems very stable from what I hear.

RedSn0w is a safer alternative to BlackRa1n to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone running OS 3.1.2.

Since it’s still a beta version, it hasn’t been posted on the Dev Team blog yet but more info about RedSn0w 0.9 beta 3 can be found here. If you’re too lazy to read the full article, here is a rundown of the most important points:

  • RedSn0w 0.9 will jailbreak all iPhones and iPod Touch (except iPod Touch 3G)
  • It will jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2
  • It will only unlock the iPhone 2G (install UltraSn0w from Cydia for iPhone 3G and 3GS)
  • RedSn0w will modify your current filesystem, so your existing baseband, data and applications should remain intact
  • If you have a late-model iPhone 3GS or an iPod touch 2G whose serial number begins with “MC”, you can use redsn0w to jailbreak but you are currently restricted to “tethered” rebooting

For full details about RedSn0w 0.9 beta 3, please read the Dev Team’s article about it.

I just wrote a tutorial on how to use RedSn0w to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2. Make sure to check it out if you’re not sure how to use RedSn0w. In the meanwhile, you may download RedSn0w 0.9 beta 3 for Windows and Mac from our download page.

How to Use Multiple Exchange Accounts on Your iPhone

By Sebastien Page on Jan 20, 2010

If you have a Microsoft Exchange account set up on your iPhone, you know how useful it is. MS Exchange has become more popular on the iPhone lately since Google implemented Google Sync for iPhone, which allows you to sync your email, contacts and calendars over the air. Exchange is also very popular among enterprise users.

One downside of Microsoft Exchange for iPhone is that you cannot have multiple Exchange accounts on one iPhone. This just changed thanks to some smart users of the ModMyi forum and an iPhone dev.

I was in the process of writing a long tutorial on how to set up multiple Exchange accounts on your iPhone when I found out thanks to JAiB that there is now an application in Cydia that does the hard work for you. If you want to add an exchange account the hard way, then read these instructions on LifeHacker. If you want to go the easy way, read on…

There is now a simple way to add a second Exchange account to your iPhone. It’s an app available in Cydia called AddExchange. Launch Cydia, look for AddExchange and install it.

After installing AddExchange, you launch the app from its springboard icon. From there, you simply tap a “+” button, and that’s it! AddExchange creates a new Exchange account behind the scenes, and names it SRV2. All you have to do at this point is open up its settings and change the defaults to whatever your second Exchange server uses. For me, I just changed it to use Google’s sync settings.

Looks simple enough. The downside? You have to be jailbroken but I guess if you’re reading this blog, that shouldn’t be much of an issue for you…

If you’ve tried AddExchange, I would love to hear your thoughts about it. Does it perform as well as it is supposed to? Have you found any caveat yet?

Add Unlimited Icons to Your iPhone Dock With InfiniDock

By Sebastien Page on Jan 18, 2010

Forget about the 5-icon dock tweak… InfiniDock is a new application available in Cydia that lets you add an unlimited amount of apps in your dock and make them easily scrollable, just like you scroll through your pages of apps on your springboard.

InfiniDock was developped by Chpwn and just like the ProSwitcher app, I think this is a simple but powerful tweak that Apple will most likely look at and implement in iPhone OS 4.0.

I’m glad to see that there are some developers out there like Chpwn. New releases in Cydia have been pretty boring lately. There sure are a bunch of themes and wallpapers, but not so many useful apps.

I first heard about InfiniDock about a week ago but I didn’t give it a try until I read some of the comments made by a few of you on my post about how many apps you have in your iPhone dock.

If you haven’t tried it yet, launch Cydia and look for InfiniDock. You can download it from Cydia for $0.99. Well worth the money if you want my opinion.

Have you tried it yet? What do you think?

Small iPhone Developer Makes Big Money

By Sebastien Page on Jan 16, 2010

Reuters has a simple article on their site about how Tapulous, the developer of Tap Tap Revenge is selling apps for over 1 million dollars each month.

What I don’t like about this article is how they make it sound like developing apps for the App Store is the new El Dorado.

iPhone app developer Tapulous says its sales have approached $1 million a month, providing fresh evidence of the growing success of start-ups designing programs for Apple Inc’s mobile device.

Unfortunately, it’s not that easy to make big bucks from the App Store. For every App Store millionaire, there are hundreds if not thousands of developers that miserably fail. Most don’t fail because of the quality of their apps. They fail because of the strong competition.

When you see these articles about how much money can be made by developing iPhone apps, please take them with a grain of salt…
