Install0us 2.5 is Out

Installous, the infamous site that helps pirates share and find cracked iPhone apps has updated its iPhone application and built it back from scratch and tagged it as Install0us 2.5.

Before I go any further, I want to make things clear. I do not support or endorse piracy. Piracy sucks. If you want an application, then buy it. This article about Install0us 2.5 is given to you for information purpose only.

Install0us 2.5 is apparently more stable than its predecessor. I downloaded and quickly had a look at it and I honestly can’t tell you what’s better than the previous version.

In order to get Install0us 2.5, you will need to add this source to Cydia: http://cydia.install0us.com.

    Should 2.0.3 be removed prior to installing 2.5, or does it handle it on its own. Considering it is from a different source, I am curious how to handle this.

    Once upon a time there was Napster and all the evil people of the world used it to download illegal music and play it on their computers. So evil marketing people came up with portable media players and now people can buy MP3 files. Look at the success of the iTunes store. Making a bit of money isn’t it? Seems all the Napster people got to listen to more music and then wanted real CD’s to have in their collection. Napster actually increased CD sales but lets not get into that old argument as statistics are very easy to manipulate.

    Now Apple has the Appstore. You can get “Lite” versions of stuff and try it out with limited functionality for a few of the more interesting apps out there. Or you can get Installous and install appz try them out and if you really like them then buy them.

    Hmmm … Napster … Installous … same sorta thing? I’d say based on Apples profit using its wonderful micro-payment system known as the Appstore that Installous has not really hurt their profits AT ALL…

    Personally I have spent more money on Apps because of getting Appz from Installous than I would have under normal circumstances. TBYB is fine by me. Lets be honest. Pirates do not intend to buy the appz they steal they are just doing it cause they can and they have been doing it since the BBS bulletin board days. You really can’t stop it as it is like trying to stop the wind with a newspaper.

    I’ve used the Installous app one hell of a lot and I delete things constantly cause there is a lot of crappy apps that sound great when you read the reviews but are garbage when you go out and buy them. Some people say that it is just a few dollars so who cares? Well … I do … That is my couple of dollars that could have got me a coke… I’d prefer to make Coca Cola rich and me happy than Apple rich and me mildly annoyed. :)

    That’s my rant for the day…

    It only gave a problem when going throug iMobileCinema, it works like a charm

    What I dont get is the extra source iphone.org.hk, I installed it but what does it do and is it necassary?

    And another thing, you have to type in http:appulo.us/appdb/i it its search field to get it going to the site, this sux as the previous version went there automagically.

    SparrowHawk, just go into the settings and set the Home URL to http:appulo.us/appdb/i, then you don’t have to type it every time.

    OK, why so many different instructions. This is saying to add the source cydia.install0us.com and get installous 2.5 from that source. However, I was also told to get the new 2.5 from the source beyouriphone(sp??). I looked at that source and there is installous 2.5. So why are others saying to get it from the cydia.install0us source?? Can you get it from either source? What would be the difference in which source you get it from? I mean install0us 2.5 is right there in the beyouriphone repo/source so why is this saying to get it from the other source?

    Just type appulo.us and it will go where it’s supposed to go. You can only set the default URL in your settings so you don’t have to type in manually everytime.

      Sorry, I do not want to tell people how to install cracked apps anymore. I think I wrote a tutorial way back when I started the blog. If you look well enough, you will find it.

    Sebastiien you don’t need to tell people how to use it or why there are different sources etc. They just go to appulo.us and RTFM. That’s where the thing come from. If they can’t do that then let them remove their jail break. :)

    Appulo.us is very slow right now. According to puyo, appulo.us will be switching servers soon so that should help a lot.

    If you have any questions I suggest you go to the about tab in installous and then click on FAQs and read that. Or go to http://install0us.com/index.php?/forum/11-%cf%89-faq/

    Another URL you can use in installous is http://www.causefx.net/i2. That site will list a bunch of other sites you can go to to find apps. I haven’t checked them all out yet so I can’t say which is the best.

    Isn’t this different from the original Installous (which is spelled with an o, not zero)
    How come there is no mention of this on the hackulo.us website?
    I’m sticking to the original one before downloading some unverified app.

    @Darq – I agree. The past few weeks have been very bad. I thought it had to do with upgrade to 3.1.2, but hopefully not. It’s been so slow I’ve gone back to the old drag and drop ipa file into iTunes on desktop method.

    This is the typical RETARD who jailbreaks just to avoid paying a couple cents for an app. He can barely spell, and he just doesn’t understand that a lot of developers are independent and could really use a few extra cents, including myself. I develop apps on the App Store, and honestly, the piracy of apps pisses me off. It’s all these prepubescent retards who think they’re 1337 hackers because they pressed a button on a GUI. I FUCKING hate script kiddies like that. I LOVE jailbreaking, and I’ve been doing it since jailbreaking was first discovered. I wouldn’t buy an iPhone again if it weren’t jailbreakable, which the next very well may not be. But the piracy of apps is where I cross the line. Apple needs to get their shit together and find a way to stop it.

    Btw, Install0us is an application with a built in web browser. Appulous is the website providing the apps. Different things, different owners, they’re not related at all and have nothing to do with each other except that the owners used to be business partners on installous 2.0. You’ll see that install0us 2.5 isn’t tied to any website, you’re given an address bar now and by default no page is loaded. That’s because install0us is and always have been just an installer with a built in web browser.

    And the official repo is cydia.install0us.com like it wasn’t ridiulously obvious. There’s the word “install0us” in the fucking url, you’ll think it’s idiot proof to know that’s the correct source. Any other source who has it just made a clone of it and put it in their repo to increase their userbase.

    I assume linjackson has worked out their issue. Click on the link http://cydia.install0us.com and you will see the repository IS there. And don’t forget that is a ZERO in the name NOT a capital O.

    Personally, I will condone piracy, and at the same time not to. Why you ask? Its the same as what “Polemicist” said in post #3. I use to buy lots of software and games due to “Reviews” from others, and once I got it I hated it, and wish I didn’t drop a dime on the stinking thing, and have it waste space on a shelf or in a box somewhere gathering dust till the end of time. I hate demo’s ok, they limit it so much, that there was no point in even putting out a demo, I would aspect them to let you demo the app/game or what not for at least a few hours or even a day to check ALL the features out. If I like it after that I buy it, if I don’t I’m glad I didn’t waste money even if its a small amount, money spent is money you can’t get back, don’t say you’ll get it back on your next paycheck. I’m saying it’s the time you spent to get the money that you cant get back. I download pirated softs try them out, for a few days, and toss it afterwords, if I liked it enough I’ll go buy it, if not no sweat off my back cause all I did was download/installed, tried it out and end of story.

    You should know that there is other then just computer science in this world. People that are having fun like you said “hacking” can keep doing that if thats one of their hobby. Apple could do something about it but they don’t. Some apps are harder to get (for exemple tomtom) and to hack, just because they make an effort. Apple know that some people wont buy their ipods/iphones if they are not jailbreakable…

    Some people canwrite fast and have tons of mistakes in their spelling… But that doesnt make them a “RETARD” like you said.
