Voice control is a iPhone 3G S feature only. It is not in the 3.0 software for the regular iPhone or 3G iPhone. Just thought I’d note that.

You’re right. I edited the post to remove that part. Thank you.

So as video recording. It’s an iPhone 3G feature only.

Audiobook speed is listed twice, 55 and 100. And some features are identical such as shake to shuffle and shake to shuffle on lock screen. As per apple there is only 100 new features.

@Seven – yes I noticed that some features were listed twice too. Thanks for pointing that out though.

I would imagine that push notifications is quite an important feature too:P.

Sebastien, have you gotten your hands on the 3.0 GM edition that seems to be all over the internet. If so can you comment on it please. I have it installed on my iPhone 3G, before I read all the warnings about being stuck in TEST mode and not being able to downgrade, but hey I could not resist, I’m not interested in unlocking my iPhone just jailbreaking so i Figured… what the hell ? So far on my end, the iPhone seems to run a little bit faster, but then again I dont have winterboard anymore to slow it down. I’m a bit dissapointed, I thought I would see more improvements. For example, the accelorometer still lags sometimes. And I was sad to find out that one of my favorite APPS (Truphone) is not yet compatible with the 3.0. I emailed theur support team and was given a confirmation that indeed truphone is not compatible with 3.0 but they are working on releasing an update soon. In addition, another thing from 3.0 that is bugging the living crap out of me is that with 2.X.X you could hold down the home button and it would end an APP, but no such thing with 3.0. I press the home button and hold but doesn;t quit the APP . What gives ? Any comments Sebastien ? Please let us know.

I haven’t downloaded any of the OS 3.0 betas because I think it’s useless. My iPhone works great under 2.2 and it is unlocked. Updating to 2.2.1 or a beta would remove the unlock. I’m going to receive my iPhone 3G S next Friday so I will have a look at 3.0 then. As for the hold on the home button, I believe this function will now call the voice control app. I’m sure there will be a trick to force quit the apps again.

So your saying that the 3.0 GM thats out there is still BETA ? now in 3Gs holding the home button does call the Voice Control APP. But what about the 3G ? What do you think ? I’m pretty sure it wont be long until someone figures out how to get voice control and the nike + support on the 3G. Other than that all the new features like spotlight are pretty useless to ME.

No, sorry, I didn’t mean that 3.0 GM was beta. You’re right. I’m sure some jailbreaker will figure out how to bring voice control to the 3G in less than a month.

Anyhow, going back to my earlier comment : For 3G owners who have or will have the 3.0 OS there is a way to force quit the APPS in order to regain memory. With OS 2.X.X. all you had to do was just hold down the home button for a few seconds until the APP quit, but for the 3GS owners to be…. doing this will activate the voice control feature. But once again APPLE seems to have forgotten about its customers with previous devices. (Which in a way is good, and I’ll explain why later) Anyhow, with the OS 3.0 in order to force quit an APP there a couple of extra steps to take.
    1) Hold down the Power and Home button, until the slide to turn off appears.
    2) Let go of both Power and Home button once the slide to turn off appears.
    3) Once again press and Hold ONLY the HOME button for a about 5~6 seconds and this will force quit the APP. (Somehow by doing this, it completely KILLS the process) Giving you more memory than before, with just simply holding down the HOME button.
Now, although its a pain in a$$ to do these extra steps I think it’s great, because without a doubt there will be a hacker out there who will incorporate the VOICE control feature on the 3G. NOw if APPLE would of made the holding down the HOME button the same on 3.0 as it did on 2.0 for 3G users we would be fresh out of luck.

Cool. Thanks for the tip. It’s good to know you can still force quit an app.

Here is an APP I thought might be work mentioning….. it works similar to voice control on the 3Gs… it’s Called Melodis, DIALER its FREE and works really great.. just something worth mentioning to keep us entertained while 3.0 is hacked up !
