Have you ever wondered how new applications in the App Store are cracked and made available online for free in a matter of hours? Well, it is due to a very controversial tool called Crackulous. By turning this tool into an iPhone application and adding a full GUI, people who aren’t technical at all are now able to crack their applications in just a few minutes.
There is an ethical issue with this app and I honestly asked myself for a while if I was going to write something about it or not as Crackulous is clearly a tool to rip off developers. After thinking about it, I decided that I was going to let people know about Crackulous because I do believe in freedom of information. Truth is, whether you like it or not, Crackulous seems to be a pretty amazing application. Now, am I excited about this app? No. Am I going to use it? No. Am I against Crackulous? No. Am I for Crackulous? No.
I haven’t tried Crackulous myself, but apparently, when you launch it, you will be presented with a list of all the apps you have on your iPhone. At this point, you can simply select the app you want to crack and let Crackulous do the job. That’s all there is to it.
I understand the need for cracked applications. What I don’t understand is why someone would spend so much time cracking these apps and make them available online. I mean, this guy is not in it for the money. So, do crackers just do this for fun? If you have an answer, please let me know in the comments.
