QuickPWN 2.2.1 Guide & Tutorial

If you like this post, please feel free to digg it, or subscribe to our RSS feed, or follow me on Twitter, or all of the above 😉

[digg-me]This guide will show you how to use QuickPWN to jailbreak your iPhone firmware 2.2.1. Please read carefully all the steps and warnings before attempting to use QuickPWN to jailbreak your iPhone. The following tutorial is for PC users.

UPDATE: I closed the comments on this post. If you have any question about QuickPwn, please ask your question in the forum.

Before doing anything, I suggest you read this important message from the Dev Team.

  1. GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone running 2.2 firmware and you want to keep your ability to use yellowns0w (or the option to use it in the future) do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
  2. Yellowsn0w will NOT work with the baseband version (02.30.03) that is present in the recent 2.2.1 update  – you will need to create a custom ipsw that will allow you to update safely without affecting the baseband.
  3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
  4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
  5. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest versions of PwnageTool and QuickPwn.
  6. These apps are suitable for the recent 2.2.1 release.
  7. The Yellowsn0w version has been updated to 0.9.7. Yellowsn0w is available from Cydia or Installer – this version allows compatibility with pwned 2.2.1 system (not baseband) – again – remember 0.9.7 yellowsn0w DOES NOT WORK WITH 2.2.1 (02.30.03) directly – you need to be running a ‘pwned’ version of 2.2.1 which doesn’t upgrade the baseband.
  8. Users of OS X 10.5.6 will be unable to use DFU mode correctly, please see the note towards the end of this post to easily fix this issue.

What does that mean? It means that you can only use this method if you don’t care about unlocking your iPhone in the future with YellowSn0w. If you’re a “legit” AT&T iPhone user and you have no interest in unlocking your iPhone in the future, then this is for you.

On the other hand, if you’re not a “legit” user or if you do want to be able to unlock your iPhone in the future using YellowSn0w, then this is NOT for you. If that’s the case, you will have to jailbreak your iPhone using PwnageTool, which will preserve your baseband. I will do my best to provide you a PwnageTool tutorial asap!

This being said, this QuickPWN guide will help you jailbreak your iPod Touch, iPhone 2G, and iPhone 3G. There is no jailbreak available yet for iPod Touch 2G!

MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERYTHING BEFORE STARTING TO USE QUICKPWN. THERE IS NO ROOM FOR FREESTYLE!!! YOU ARE USING QUICKPWN AT YOUR OWN RISKS!

That was sort of my disclaimer as I am tired of people messing up their iPhones and holding me responsible for it. So again, you’re using QuickPWN at your own risks. If you have any issue during the process, please leave a comment.

Everything you need to download is in the iPhone Downloads section of the site.

1. On your desktop, create a folder called Pwnage. In this folder save a copy of the 2.2.1 firmware (make sure you use the appropriate firmware!) as well as QuickPWN 2.2.1.

2. Unzip QuickPWN.

3. Make sure you have the very latest version of iTunes. It is extremely important!! If you don’t have the latest iTunes, download nad install it. After the install, make sure to restart your computer. This is a very important step!

4. Plug your iPhone to your computer and wait for iTunes to detect it. Now you have 2 options. You can either update to 2.2.1 or restore your iPhone to 2.2.1. I always prefer restoring as you will start with a fresh and clean firmware and it will not create wasted space on your iPhone. As an alternative to restoring, you may want to read my post about upgrading a jailbroken iPhone. It’s your choice but again, I recommend restoring. To restore, simply hit SHIFT + Restore. A window will pop up asking you to choose what firmware you want to use to restore. Use the firmware 2.2.1 you downloaded in step 1.

5. After restoring (or updating), launch QuickPWN. QuickPWN should recognize your device automatically.

6. Click “Browse” to select the firmware 2.2.1 you downloaded in step 1.

7. QuickPWN will display a green checkmark if the firmware is correct. In this case, click the blue arrow to continue. If it’s not, it means that you have downloaded the wrong firmware.

8. Now QuickPWN will let you install Cydia, Installer, and custom boot logos. Note that you HAVE TO install Cydia but Installer and custom boot logos are optional. So make sure you select at least Cydia, then click the blue arrow to continue.

9. QuickPWN will now ask you to “please make sure your device is connected via USB before continuing”. Click the blue arrow to continue.

10. This is the most important step! QuickPwn will now automatically put your iPhone into recovery mode. Once it is in recovery mode you will be prompted to:

  • Hold the Home button for 5 seconds,
  • Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds,
  • Then release the Power button while continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

Watch the prompts carefully and follow along!

11. If you did this correctly, QuickPWN will detect your iPhone in recovery mode and will ask you to “wait while your iPhone is prepared for jailbreaking”.

12. As a final step, QuickPWN will tell you that “the pwnage process appears to have completed successfully. Please wait for your device to reboot in its newly modified state”.

13. Voila!

If you have any question, please ask in the forum.

  1. just wanna comment that on your download page, the link for ipod touch firmware update is for ipod touch 2g firmware

  2. Do as per instructions. But my iPhone 3G keeps on showing the white apple bootup logo. Nu change despite numerous reset with home and power button. What should I do?

  3. The install went smoothly, with one small exception. The jailbroken apps I had on my iPhone were no longer present even after syncing my device. Cydia and Installer were installed, and I did get a “i haz success” output, so I know it worked.

Was I supposed to be forced to re-download all of my jailbroken apps?

  4. I tried using quickpwn to jailbreak my iphone 3g which is running 2.2.1. it went through the process successfully but it stalls on the apple logo when booting, and then repeatedly reboots without success. what’s goin on?

  5. @mi_sat – yes, you have to download your Cydia apps again

@sansr88 – you probably didn’t download the right firmware for your iPhone.

  6. @Sebastien I had originally used the firmware that was in the iTunes folder. I downloaded a new copy from Apple’s website, and magically it worked! Time to sync my music and apps again, I decided to go fresh with this.

  7. Damn, another problem now. When I hit the phone button, it opens up and then crashes. I can’t make calls through there 🙁 (I can get into the contacts, but I can’t access the keypad).

  8. thanks alot. i was trying to re jailbreak 2.2 and it wouldent work it would never go to tell me to hold down the buttons, but i downloaded this and it worked right away

  9. I figured out that problem too. Whatever any new jailbreaker does, DO NOT INSTALL KATE!

  10. Thx, everything works fine except that i don’t get the choice whether to install the Insaller app or not it also displays the pineapple logo when startin up when i just didn’t want it to do that. Where can i uncheck this options?
When I open quickpwn it shows the choose which iphone/ipod touch u have screen and then i have to choose my fw and it starts the pwning process.
What do I have to do? Thx in advance.

  11. I have a 3g 16GB, Black iPhone that I upgraded using iTunes. I then used the new QuickPwn225-2. After going through the motions and everything on the screen showed okay my phone just kept rebooting.

I tried redoing the pwnage 2 time with no luck then did a restore and pwned again with no luck still.

I looked at my files being saved and noticed my system clock and date were off. I set the date and time, re did the pwn steps and bingo it work! What a waste of time for such a small update!

If you have 2.2 and its working for you then I suuuuugggggggeeeeest keeping it.

It was a big pain in the butt and a waste of many hours.

To make sure this was the issue of it failing. I upgraded my mom’s phone and pwned it too. No issues at all!

    Peace,
    Dr. Chip

  12. Hi guys i read the whole tutorial but have one question. I have downloaded the 2.2.1 firmware version from download section of this website. But before i restore my iphone with that firmware by pressing shift+restore i want to know would the restoration would also update the MODEM FIRMWARE cuz i have my phone unlocked and the new modem firmware which comes with 2.2.1 will not work with yellowsn0w

  13. I quickpwn my 3g 8gig 2.1 and have no reception now anyone elese get this problem and how did you fix it

  14. Sebastien,
On a mac, will quickpwn unlock a 2g phone so that the sim cards can be swappable between ATT and another network. I am using version 2.2.5 but can’t switch sim cards after jailbreak without new sim card not being recognized. If I start with other sim, when I switch back to ATT it is not recognized. Do I need pwnage tool or is swapping sim cards not possible with iphone 2g. I want to swap when I travel outside country and keep ATT @ home.
    Thanks

  15. I’m going to repeat a question from the other (Firmware 2.2) stream. I have a 16GB iPhone running 2.2, which I’m prepared to update to 2.2.1. I want to install PDANet on the iPhone, but then re-lock the phone. Will PDANet stay installed?

  16. When I download QuickPWN 2.2.1 it downloads as a Torrent file not a zip file.
    Am I doing something wrong?

  17. i keep getting a Unkown Handle Segmentation Fault 0x010 message when it i launch quickpwn, help please?

  18. My ipod touch has 2.2 firmware. But I also have added some music from other computers which I don’t have on mine. I’ve haven’t jailbroken my ipod fearing that it may erase all my songs !! So I was wondering that if whether updating to 2.2.1 using UPDATE or shift + RESTORE would erase the songs ? or if simply jailbreaking it no matter which method I use to update will erase them .
    please help .

  20. Sebastien just wanted to let you know that I followed your guide to a T with a brand new 8GB 3G running 2.2.1 and jailbroke it without a single problem. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND FOLLOW THEM PEOPLE!!!! THIS WORKS!!!! Thanks for the easy to use guide!!

  21. Hey Chris,
Glad to see you made it without any problem.
People who mess up are people who didn’t follow the instructions correctly (ie. didn’t install the latest version of iTunes).
    Anyways. Enjoy your jailbroken iPhone!
    Sebastien

  22. Hey i have a 3G iPhone with the 2.2.1 (5H11) update. I did have my phone jailbroke then updated by accident. Now that the new quickpwn came out i jailbroke my phone again and i had no probs except on the network it was showing none…and it didnt have any signal. did i miss something? please help cause i am a noob

  23. how do you delete the installer program if you dont want it? you know the one that comes with quickpwn.

  24. I’ve successfully jailbroken my iPhone 3G 2.2.1 firmware on a Windows 7 beta 64 bit pc.
Nice stuff! Thanks to the Quickpwn team!

  25. Unfortunately I had to restore my yphone and it automatically upgraded to FW 2.2.1. Now it delited all my apps, wich is normal…but….no metter how hard I try to jailbroke it, over and over again…..cydia and installer will not appear on my springboard…..all the applications that I had, even those purchase with Apple can not be transfered to my phone because…check this….”applications are not valid”…so bassically I can’t do anything with it anymore….any solutions?

  26. Is there anyone out there that can confirm Japanese I-phones have a SIM slot?
I’m planning on getting the phone through a connection of mine in Japan, then unlocking it in the UK.

    Cheers.

  27. hey there, installation was succesfull, i have a 2G phone and upgraded firmware to
    2.1 effortlessly.
BUT now i don’t have any cell signal. i can’t make any phonecalls or sms…(i’m using an italian sim for TIM) When i switch the iphone on, the pin-apple logo appears, and not the apple’s one, and i don’t get any signal. is there anything i missed along the way? Quickpwn did everything himself without having to select any add-ons (a part for the firmware version to upgrade to)
please let me know — Thank you!

  28. I followed the instructions, but my phone has been stuck on the last part of the process. Where it says “wait while your iphone is prepared for jailbreaking”. Underneath the status bar it says “uploading exploit bootloader”. It’s been stuck like this for a while. What do I do?

  29. hi ive been trying to jailbreak my at&t iphone 3g firmware 2.2 with quickpwn . ive been reading and reading all the steps but it never works . i get to the part where the phone goes into recovery mode and it stops there . i never get 2 the part where i have to hold down the bottons and stuff . if u can help me that would be grate im really trying to jailbreak .

  30. I finished the whole process. So is my iphone unlocked and ready for a T-Mobile sim card yet?

  31. How do I install PDAnet using a Mac?
I was using it, and it worked fine, until my I phone updated to 2.2.1.
    HELP…..
    Thanks,
    JCR

  32. Thanks for the great site. Just a quick question. I have never jailbroken my phone before and want to make sure that when I do it it’s the right way. At which point do I restore from backup in order to get all my App store apps on the phone? If I let the phone restore and then use Quickpwn, I guess I should restore from backup after quickpwn has jailbroken it? I’m using 1st generation locked.

  33. I have a first gen iphone with 2.2.1 firmware and I noticed that when I’m prompted to release power and hold home for 30 seconds the time never goes down 0, like it does in the other steps, before it tell me to wait while its prepared for jailbreaking. After about a minute QuickPwn encounters a problem and needs to close, or an application errors happens. What exactly am I doing wrong? Thanks for the info.

  34. This worked great to the T! I have been scared to jailbreak my iPhone for the last 15 months that I have had mine. I have a 1st gen. running firmware 2.2.1, and followed the directions EXACTLY as described above and it worked. I now have my beautiful Vista theme on my iPhone and I am very happy. Great work guys!

  35. seems that your link to download the 2.2.1 firmware for iTouch 1st gen is down.
    Try to correct it!

    CU

  36. What is going on with my iphone…
When I try doing Shift + restore it doesn’t bring up a box to choose the firmwire…. Instead it just goes to download its own firmwire… please help

  37. i have done everything step by step here, but it still says sim not valid, i do not get why?

  38. Help please!!! When I tried following step #10 my phone would not go into DFU mode. After trying to push the buttons a million times, I then restored my phone and tried again. It still did not work. And now, my phone will not turn on! Any input is much appreciated! Thanks!

  39. When using Quickpwn. I am not getting the prompts to hold down the home button. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  40. @ Jay, My only suggestion for you is to do a hard restore to get the phone back in to working order.

@ Jayna, I hate to put it this way but are you following the instructions word for word? When you downloaded the quickpwn file, did you grab the right one for your phone? There is the 3G file and 1st gen. file? You are looking for the prompts on the program not on your phone right? Have to ask, sorry, not trying to be an ass.

  41. Hi Steve,

It’s ok. Yes I am reading the directions word for word and yes I am looking for the prompts on the Quickpwn software. When I get to step #10 it just sits on the same screen and only “wait for you iPhone to connect in Recovery Mode” is in BOLD letters. Then my iPhone goes to the screen with the USB connecting to itunes picture. Quickpwn still doesn’t prompt me to hold down the Home key.

I am pretty sure that I DL the correct Quickpwn version since it doesn’t specify whether it’s for 2g or 3g. I DL the 2g 2.2.1 firmware & the Quickpwn version 2.2.1. I’m going to delete the version I DL and do it over. Hopefully that works.

I do have a question though. I recently updated my itunes to version 8.0.2. Should I have Itunes 8? Or is 8.0.2 okay? Thanks!

  42. WOW! I just did a Jailbreak and Unlock on my 1st-Gen iPhone and so far everything is working as advertised. A couple of notes since so many seem to have problems…

    1. RTFM! The unlocker is NOT for the 3G iPhone. A little patience, people.
    2. You need BitTorrent to d/l from torrent sites. Google it.
    3. Back-up (sync) your phone before you start.
    4. If you’ve already upgraded to 2.2.1 the file is still on your computer and the QuickPwn app will find it.
    5. Follow the directions above to Restore a fresh copy of 2.2.1, but DO NOT Restore from Backup until after you complete this procedure. This got all my contacts and settings back.
    6. After the Restore was complete I had to Sync to get all my AppStore apps back. I can’t comment on HomeBrew apps since I don’t have any… Yet.

Good Luck to all and THANK YOU iPhone Dev Team!!

  43. question.thinking about jailbreaking my phone doesnt sound to terribly difficult and i’m pretty sure i wont have trouble following instructions my question is this what damage risk do i have envolved. ie what are the chances my phone will cease to function and two if i do this will i be able to text message someone a freakin picture

  44. @ Jayna, sorry about that, you need to have the most up to date version on iTunes which is 8.0.2.20 (i think). Also at the top of this page there are links to download the correct quickpwm file for the right generation phone. When you click that link there are 2 sets of links for iphone 2g and 3g.

  45. hi it says firmware error string
but im 100% sure that its the right firmware?
    what do i do?

  46. I already have the 2.2.1 firmware updated on my phone. Can I still use this process to unlock my phone? I’m moving from Canada to the US and want to bring my phone with me. Will this work?
    Thanks in advance.

  47. Oh yea. I was told that unlocking my iPhone will disable my GPS. Is that true? Or was that someone that didn’t know what they were talking about?

  48. I’ve tried this exactly per instructions. I got the I has success but my iPhone reboots with the apple logo still or with the connect to USB and needs a restore. . I am now offline and don’t want to risk it having to be “unlocked” by the iTunes store confirming my phones # this is just nasty as I no longer have a # although it does unlock. I just want to install an FTP app that I have a deb file for and can’t install it from terminal ….. That’s all just 1 $10 app. Apple actually cut my app store account over $1 after the card was somehow denied although it had cash on it…. Possibly apple does not allow prepaid cc LOL.

  49. Hello I correctly followed through the steps to Jailbreak my ipod touch 1st gen 2.2.1 everything went through and it said it completed and to wait for it to reboot but its just stuck at the boot up screen apple logo. Its not loading up. what is the cause of this and how can I fix it?

  50. haya!!
i did the same but it is rebooting from 6 hours and screen is not comming up.only a sighn of pine apple is comming up

  51. great tutorial! thanks for that sebastien.
    here’s my only problem 🙂
i’ve got a 1G ipod touch 8gig. never been jailbroken.
i bought firmware 2.0 then updated it to 2.2.1
    using a mac osx 10.4.11
i’ve found all the ipsws in the itunes folder (sweet)

now the problem, when i start quickpwn, it detects the ipod but not the firmware 🙁
and i don’t have the option to search for it….sigh
    what should i do?
    thanks in advance mate!

hope to hear from ya soon 🙂

  52. Hi I’ve downloaded quickpwn 2.2.1 on my laptop running vista however when I run the application on the first step from connecting my iPhone and click the blue arrow I get a pop up which says access is denied, when I click details it goes on at the bottom something about JIT bugging and I get ant further! Has this happened to anyone else and if so how did you get past this? Thanks!

  53. Try and try again using the same instruction, the windows always report quickpwn needs to close, sorry for ..blahh3.
Then try to just proceed by ignoring the Windows message, but always stuck in “wait while your iphone is prepared”
    What should I do ?
    Thanks

  54. Had abit of a scare… when loading the firmware said unrecognized.. almost crapped myself… but tried it again… worked like a beauty..

    Thanks guys…

  55. The qwkpon file isn’t zipped, it’s a torrent file. is that right? it won’t open on my computer, it’s not a recognized file extension etc… HELP!! PLEASE!!! Someone please respond.

  56. Ok. seriously we are all a bunch of tools. because of that it would have been good to mention that you hold the home button for 5 seconds AND DON”T let it go after that, but continue to hold it while procedding to step two.
It did work out in the end though.
    THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

But Where are my APPS that I bought? just redownload them?

  57. hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my phone numbers are ALL gone, but worth it. Just make sure you back them up people, maybe with a pen and paper! lol!

  58. Sebastien, I am interested in this comment: “It means that you can only use this method if you don’t care about unlocking your iPhone in the future with YellowSn0w”

Does it mean that for now, if I go through these steps, I will not be able to unlock my phone in the NEAR future, or does it mean that my iphone will be NEVER be unlockable if I do this?

Because I’d like to keep att for now, but that may change down the road.

  59. Hello Jacque,

It means that until the Dev Team finds a way to unlock baseband 2.30.03 (from firmware 2.2.1 update) you will not be able to unlock your iPhone. Once the Dev Team finds a way, and I’m sure they will, you will be able to use YellowSn0w to unlock.

It might take a while, or it might just take a few days. I don’t think anyone outside of the Dev Team really knows.

    Hope that helps.

    Sebastien

  60. hola soy de españa y tengo iphone 3g con version 2.2.1 y yellowsn0w instalado pero la sim no me coge covertura, necesito ayuda.gracias

  61. Hi Sebastien and everyone

I am stuck at “wait for ur iphone to connect in recovery mode” before doing the pressing of buttons. its been there for 20mins-30mins (and this is after restoring my phone 3 times)
Any advice? I am doing a 8GB Iphone with 2.2.1 version
    Thanks
    Marilyn

  62. Hi, i got a locked Iphone 3G, with a version 2.2.1 ( 5H11 ), modem Firmware: 02.30.03, i read a lot this version is a bit tricky to unlock, and a bit confuse as where did i start, Pwnage tools, Yellow0w, jailbreak, i don’t want to change the baseband at this stage yet, please help in this, a million , thanks.

  63. hey just wanted to say thanks a ton for the tutorial ive been starring at it for a month wondering if i should or not sense so many people seem to be having trouble and was reallly worried about it. but sense the phone is about useless to me without some of the features i can get via jailbreak i gave it a shot. and after all of about 8 minutes of my time i gotta say thats the easiest thing i’ve ever hacked. i have no idea why everyones having trouble the program does it all for you .

follow the instructions and make sure you have the right software wich the program will tell you if you do not. love it. thanks again!

  64. oops forgot. i had a question what is a legit or non legit att user? and why would i need to unlock my iphone?

just curious i have att and i pay for it lol

  65. By “legit AT&T user”, I mean someone who did buy his iPhone at the AT&T store and pay a monthly fee to AT&T. By “non legit”, I mean people who bought an iPhone from a third party with no phone plan attached, or someone who stopped his contract with AT&T to unlock the iPhone and use it with a different carrier (ie T Mobile).

  66. ahh gottcha. ummm question i went thru all this in a hope to be able to send mms messages and i still cant,..i tried swirly att hates me..what do i do? am i missing something or am i just sol
    lol

  67. If you get stuck on “Recovery Mode”, plug your iPhone into a USB Hub port, and then plug the port into your computer.

    [I’ve got an iPhone 3G 2.2.1. I’m using a Mac Pro with OS X 10.5.6.]
The Pwnage tool would stall in DFU mode. Something is glitch-y without the USB hub. Pwnage tool locked up my iPhone, then on the 2nd try- locked down my computer by disabling all USB and bluetooth capabilities. This has to do with the DFU mode and how it interacts with my computer’s operating system.)

It worked perfect after connecting the USB HUB, though!

Just dont try this without a USB HUB. It wont hurt anything, and it will save you lots of frustration and trouble!

BJ: To get Copy/Paste functionality once you’ve jailbroken, download CLIPPY OR OPENCLIP from Cydia. 🙂

  68. Hi,

ill start by describing the status of my iphone 3G…I have just purchased it yesterday and its one of those devices that i can update via itunes without locking it….after i have restored nad updated it to the new firmware 2.2.1 5H11
So far everything went sweftly…now i had to jailbreak it to use installer and Cydia….so i used the qwk-pwn software and also successfully completed the task with no issues….when i had my old iphone 2G, i used to transfer everything i need from photos to videos to music using “Im TOO ipod file transfer” which used to work amazingly well…I hooked my updated iphone 3G to it and managed to move one video for testing…it was copied with no issues..when i try to view the video file on the phone, the list is empty, and when i head back to itunes it says that my iphone needs to be restored to its factory defaults for itunes to access it…DO YOU WISH TO RESTORE….and so i click yes, erase everything and do the QWK PWN thingy all over again…does anyone have any idea what is going on….am desperate

  69. Hi – I ran the quickpwn successfully on my 2g phone. But quickpwn didn’t display the option to check a box for unlocking the phone – it just went straight to running the program… Did quickpwn unlock the phone automatically? Is there a way to know it is now unlocked and jailbroken? Sorry such a lame question – I’m a beginner. – k

  70. i downloaded quickpwn but everytime i click on it i get a erro saying :

    c:\windows\Microsoft.net\Framework\v2.0.5072\mscorwks.dll could not be loaded.

i also had tried replacing the mscorwks.dll file but it wont load. can anyone help?

  71. how long does the apple logo will appear after I jailbroke my iPhone, because i’ve just try to jailbreak my iphone but , it appeared that my iphone was unable to boot. So now, i am restoring my iphone, that will take up to 4 hours because iTunes have to download the firmware from the apple website. Is there any other way to restore my iPhone without using iTunes?

  72. sorry, I missed the “SHIFT” part, restoring my iPhone from the file downloaded before. I’m gonna try to jailbreak my iPhone one more time. Wish me luck.

  73. hey all…
i am having a problem with Quickpwn.
when ever i try to open it there is an application error that application failed to initialize properly..
    plz help me out

  74. awesome, my iPhone officially jailbroken, btw i’ve just figured out that USB charging is unstable, about first 3 minutes after I connect my iphone to my laptop, it charges my iPhone, but then it turns to only connecting, not charging. Is this bug, or I miss some guidance in the cloud about this problem.

  75. I tried the steps for QuickPwn for my iPhone 3G. My phone is stuck with the pineapple symbol on the front. It will not restart. The pineapple stays on the front. How can I restore the iPhone to version 2.2.1 and try again? I have no phone! iTunes does not recognize it either. Help!

  76. I’ve also had the problem of getting stuck post-jailbreak with the Pineapple of Death. To restore your phone, this is what you have to do…

    * Connect it to your computer with iTunes open.
    * Hold down the home key for 5 seconds. Don’t let go of it.
    * Hold down your power key in addition to the home key for 20 seconds, your phone will reboot, and then show the Russian guy.
    * iTunes should recognize that you’ve connected an iPhone that’s in recovery mode. Select your iPhone, then click ‘recover’; on the summary screen.
    * When your phone is done with the recovery, restore from your backup.

  77. how can I solve the error massage when unzipping quickpwn it tells me that its not a Win32 application…..

  78. Hello,

I am confused, if I have an Iphone 2G and i use TM can i download firmware 2.2.1 and still continue to use TM or will it no longer work??

    thank you

  79. I used the QwkPwn tool to jail break my iphone 3g which i had upgraded to 2.2.1 from Itunes. I am not a ‘legit’ user. The jail break was successfull, i got all my data back, the contacts, the apps etc however it doesnt show the signal from the SIM card. It detects the SIMcard but doesnt show the signals on the top left hand side.

  80. Please help. It seems Rob had the same problem a month or so ago but he has fixed i will really appreciate if you can tell me how you did it rob.

  81. Hi guys, i have been trying this over 10 times now… (i have an original ATT card (which will activate the phone) and another ATT card (separate number) ). The reason why i would like to unlock this phone is so that when i travel i can use the separate number and charge the roaming data to that separate number…

I have done several combinations switching the cards and doing quickpwn without any sims etc and I seem to always get stuck at the process of the DFU… quickpwn will stay on the last step of the DFU screen and eventually will say (Not Responding)…

I have upgraded iTunes and rebooted after that,… i am at a loss… i used to have 2.2 (and cracked it with the previous version of quickpwn without trouble)…

Can anyone reply with what am i doing wrong?

    my email is: macutan@hotmail.com

    thx

  82. couple more notes on my issue:

The screen on Quickpwn that gets stuck at is when it says “Uploading exploit bootloader” at that stage the iphone has a sort of white screen…

After 15mins at that screen the iphone restarts and at that point the circle to the left of “Uploading exploit bootloader” stops to spin…

    help…

  83. I placed in the folder the firmware and quikpwn and unzipped and restarted computer, but when I launch the pineapple I get an error message: to run this application, you first must install one of the following versions of the .NET Framework: v2.0.5.727 Contact your application publisher for instructions about obtaining the appropriate version of the .NET Framework.

  84. Please clarify: If I upgraded the baseband to 2.30.03 and 2.2.1 firmware can I still use quickpwn to download Cydia and Installer?? I am a legit customer so I don’t need to unlock…I only want to jailbreak now. I get the error firmware string message with 2.2 firware and 2.30.03 baseband, should I try with 2.2.1 and 2.30.03 baseband ? Is it possible or is a waste of time. Also I have a GEV Sim adaptor which actually can unlock the phone if required. Please help.

  85. Thanks DevTeam! Really worked! I’ve saved a few bucks from making other people to jailbreak my iPhone 3G.

  87. Im trying to download QuickPWN 2.2.1 for Windows from off this website, when I click nothing happens. Can any one help me or give me another website where I can download QuickPWN from?

  88. Josh, go to google and type quickpwn downloads and click the first website…make sure you download a .ZIP file and not a torrent file that would not open…I had the same problem and just went to any other website and it worked.

  89. This really work like a magic!!! Great guide threre! Had just some problem, I do not follow instructions at first. Second time went perfect! Completed without any problem my iPod Touch 16gb. Now, planning to do it in my new iPhone 3G! (Having still second thoughts…)

Sir, if in case I used QuickPwn to do the jailbreaking, will it still be possible to unlock it in the future using Yellowsnow or any other application?

Thank you so much for this great post!

  93. HELP!!
i was doing everything correctly on my ipod touch and its finished jailbreaking and all of that. But it worked perfectly when i used QwkPWN 2.2….
    Now it says that :

“the Pwnage process appears to have completed sucessfully.
please wait for your device to reboot in its newly modified state.”

But it is stuck on the reboot logo for 15 minutes (still waiting!) and when i click on iTunes it can’t recognise it.
Also, the ‘autoplay’ thing keeps on popping up – ‘Apple iPod’
What is happening??? Can i fix this? Can anyone help?? :'(

    my email – caffyx@googlemail.com
    plz dont send junk
(… my dad is going to kill me for ruining my ipod!!! eek..)
    Thanks ppl!

  94. arrrrgh… still on reboot for 30 mins… btw i was jailbreaking quickPWN 2.2.1
did it all ruin because my iTunes version was 8.0?? i’m now updating it …

  95. Yes you ruined it!!! Look at step 3….

    3. Make sure you have the very latest version of iTunes. It is extremely important!! If you don’t have the latest iTunes, download nad install it. After the install, make sure to restart your computer. This is a very important step!

  96. oh well… i hope my ipod is still working after the install and when i restart the pc.. ?!?!?! i did try to update iTunes before i started to jailnreak my ipod touch but it would work and had a ‘!’ next to it… now its just taking a loooong time to install 8.1.1

  97. “Users of OS X 10.5.6 will be unable to use DFU mode correctly, please see the note towards the end of this post to easily fix this issue.”

    Where is this?

  98. i am trying to jailbreak my 2G ipod Touch, and I can’t seem to get QuickPwn to recognize the firmware file from your download section. I have done the shift+restore and used the downloaded fimware and that worked fine, it is just not recognizing the same file in the QuickPwn software. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  99. When I download QuickPwn 2.2.5-2 for Windows, open the zip folder, extract files, then press run, an error message comes on that says: “QuickPwn encountered a problem and needs to close”. Is there something wrong with the program? It’s the official download from QuickPwn.com. Is there another link I should use to download QuickPwn?
I jailbroke my phone a few months ago with QuickPwn with no problems. I was forced to restore my iphone, and I want to jailbreak it again.

  100. Hello,
i bought an iphone in sngapore and brought it back to australia with me. on my iphone i believe i have software 1.1.4. but i want to upgrade this to the new one so that i can use the itunes apps etc…
when i bought the iphone, the guy said that i shouldent upgrade the software because the phone will get locked…

if i follow this guide will my iphone be alright/usable? and will it still be unlocked? im currently with the vodaphone carrier..

  101. mitchell,

it will work perfectly, provided you will follow the procedures on the dot. the pwnage will not affect the phone/cellular capabilities of your iPhone. Pwnage will only upgrade the firmware so you can install third party application. Unlocking it from your current carrier (possiblity to use other SIM cards) is another procedure which is carried out by using another application from a third party like Cydia.

So, you jailbreak your phone to:

    – install another application from another party (not just iTunes)
    – prepare your iPhone for unlocking it in the future from your provider

    Hope this helps.

  102. hello! the update worked perfectly.
the only problem is that my caller ID’s are all annoyingly screwed up. Im from australia and the local mobile numbers appear in this format: 04** *** ***, this format works fine when it comes to recieving calls, but when i recieve a text message the numbers appear in this format +61 4** *** ***. which the 0 is replaced by +61. this is a major incovinence for i cant identify who sends me the text messages, there is the option of saving all numbers in both formats in my contacts but thats quite anoying and would be so much better if that wasnt necessary.

It also happens with home numbers too, which in australia are in the form of (for example) 9*** ****. But now when i recieve a call, the number comes up with the local area code too, which in my case (because i live in perth) is 08 9*** ****

Does anyone know how to fix this? if someone could detail me a method that would be great.

  103. Heya, I just have a couple of questions since I’m new to this.
Is there different firmwares for european/american iPhones?
And is it possible to brick the iPhone to a point of no return with quickpwn?
It would be awesome if someone could answer this because I want to give this one a go ^^

    Cheers!

  104. HI. It is couased by an error in the USB software for mac 10.5.6.
There is no problem if you run your pwn-tool when connecting your iPhone through a powered USB hub. Have no idea why – but it works

  105. Hi,

thanky for such a nice tutorial. It was really helpfull. I just got a problem which I read people had before but I really didn`t read any answer 🙁 I jailbreak my Iphone sucessfully but iPhone don`t recognize my sim card anymore 🙁 I can`t call or send sms. Would be really thankfyll for any help 😉

  106. i followed step by step on how to jaibreak it and everything went ok up to the point were it says finish, But when i turn my iphone 3g, .. All i got is the lighted Apple icon. What shoul i do ? Help!!!

  107. I read all impossible forums about my problem it`s really comonn to many pepole. I do step by step all already twice but there`s no service for my iphone after jailbreaking. I`m sad that noone nowhere was answer to this problem 🙁 I guess I just can`t jailbreak my iphone 🙁

  108. I at last get answer to my problem. In my case it help to install on another computer itunes 7.1.1.11. and then jailbreak my iphone. It work :))) I can now call and send sms with no problems. So if anyone will have the same problem, hope this will hepl U too 😉

  109. I am following the steps, but on step 2 of the pwn software after it detects the iphone, (The step where it says browse) I keep getting firmware error string!! driving me nuts… Help?!

  110. If you are on the iphone 3g 2.2.1, and you can’t get past the apple logo upon completion, restore your iphone by opening itunes, then holding the Home button down for 5 seconds, then hold the power button until it turns off. Let go of just the power button, then press the power button again while still holding the Home button and iTunes will eventually recognize that it’s in “Restore Mode” and you can restore from backup. (If you have one).

Now to attempt QuickPWN again correctly, realize that they left out the first step in the program. Open iTunes, click on your phone on the left, hold the shift button down, and click the Restore button. This will open a file browser where you can select the newly downloaded iPhone1,2_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw. Restore to this file. This is an important step because it starts the iphone from scratch. Then, reload QuickPWN and browse to the same Restore file. When running QuickPWN 2.2.5 or 2.2.1 it will close iTunes. This is okay, don’t worry about it. When it gets to the third step and asks you to hold down for 30 seconds, really hold down for 30 seconds. Don’t let go when it moves down to the next process. Still count down from where it leaves off to zero, then let go. Then let it do it’s thing. You should only have to wait about a couple of minutes for it to do it’s thing.

  111. Also, I forgot to mention. After restoring to the brand new Restore file, iTunes will prompt you to restore service to the phone, select yes, then run QuickPWN.

  112. Kevin0323 – Thanks for the recovery instructions. I was in extreme pucker mode after getting nothing but the apple logo with periodic USB connect/disconnect sounds and vibrations for nearly 30 minutes. Your recovery instructions worked perfectly.

  113. OK, So I have the iPhone 3G. I have downloaded QuickPwn and the firmware BUT when I go to RESTORE my iPhone, even though it is already 2.2.1 IN the file there is NOTHING to be clicked. I click it to OPEN and OPEN and there is nothing. ALSO when I open the QUICKPWN is doesn’t even PICK up my iPhone. . . I’ve done this before on a previous iPhone…

    What am I doing wrong>>??

  114. Hello, I have a 2G Iphone that was cracked to be used with tMobile. I don’t remember syncing or plugging the phone to iTunes the last time. Recently (two days ago) I changed my passcode and completely forgot it. I tried to guess the password my typing the numbers until the message on the screen appeared, like ‘ connect to itunes’. I can’t connect to iTunes as the phone is locked. Some of the people tell me to use DiskAid or SSH (WinSCP). I downloaded both of them. I couldnt use to DiskAid as I had to connect to iTunes from the same computer at least once. I couldn’t use the SSH (WinSCP) as I need the IP address in order to SSH the root directory and navigate to the file including passcode, wife, email, etc.
Now, do you think if I follow the steps indicated above would somehow help me do remove the passcode? Please advise, as I’m completely clueless about all this stuff.

  115. my iphone slide to unlock is frozen how can i make it work. i jailbreak it but i still cant open it can u please help me with this?
