QuickPwn 2.0.2

Woohoo, it only took a few days to the DevTeam and Poorlad to update their GUI version of QuickPwn and make it work with the latest iPhone firmware 2.0.2.

QuickPwn 2.0.2 contains their new bundles for 2.0.2 and they’ve also added support for version 2.0 devices which means you can QuickPwn and jailbreak the device if it is running 2.0, 2.0.1 or 2.0.2. Isn't it fabulous? (I love saying "fabulous", it sounds so gay though... haha)

Keep in mind that this is still beta software, so use the tool at at your own risk!

How to use QuickPwn 2.0.2? Well, simply follow the directions on my QuickPwn GUI tutorial. The method is exactly the same except that you will now be using the iPhone's firmware 2.0.2, which is available in the iPhone Downloads section of my site.

Here is important information from the DevTeam. Please read carefully.

Using QuickPwn does not update the firmware itself, this tool is designed to ‘Pwn’ (the ability to install future custom non-Apple firmwares) , ‘Jailbreak’ and install Installer or Cydia on a given device. If your device is running 2.0.1 and you QuickPwn it, it’ll still be running 2.0.1, although it will now be Pwned and Jailbroken, similarly if your device is running 2.0.2 and you QuickPwn it, it will then be running 2.0.2 but the device will now be Pwned and Jailbroken. It will also activate (not unlock) devices that are being used outside of their intended territories and cannot be activated using iTunes.

If you want to update to 2.0.2 then use the normal iTunes update to get to 2.0.2 and then use QuickPwn to Pwn, Jailbreak and Activate, remember that the 2.0.2 update includes a baseband update for the 3G iPhone, so depending what your long term intentions are for the phone, update wisely, of course in the upcoming PwnageTool application you’ll be able to create a custom ipsw without the baseband update enabled.

There is no Mac version so far.

QuickPwn GUI Guide

I told you yesterday that the Dev Team had release QuickPwn, as a beta version. Well, "poorlad” has stepped up and created a GUI version of QuickPwn (available in the iPhone Downloads section) based on the Dev Team's Windows release.

As for me, I'm still on 2.0. Yep, I haven't updated yet. 2.0 is slow and buggy but I hate spending hours jailbreaking my phone. Even though the jailbreaking process is quick and easy, it always takes me forever to set my iPhone to its past settings after restoring.

So, how to use QuickPwn? This is your QuickPwn Guide!

Download QuickPwn and QuickPwn GUI and extract them in the same folder. Open iTunes and connect your phone. Make sure iTunes recognizes your phone. Leave your phone plugged in and let iTunes run. Download the proper firmware image; either 2.0.1 3G or 2.0.1 2G. Save this firmware image in the same folder as the quickpwn.exe file you extracted in step 1. Launch QuickPwn GUI. Select your device and hit next. Click "Browse". Go to the folder where you saved your firmware image and select your firmware. You should get a check mark, meaning all is good. Click Next On the next screen, you are asked to choose Cydia and/or Installer. My recommendation is to just select Cydia as Installer is stii very buggy. Click Next You will get a message saying you are ready to launch the Pwnage process. Click “Go”. You will see some crazy codes go by on your screen. Then you will be asked to turn off your phone and press enter when you have done so. Per the directions on your screen, turn off your phone by holding power, sliding to power off, and waiting for it to power off. Do not disconnect the phone from your PC! If you do, you must start over. Put your phone into DFU Mode. If you don't know how to do this, look at this DFU guide. Or else, go to YouTube and see how it's done. It sometimes takes multiple attempts to get into DFU mode. And, if you fail to get into DFU mode, the app quits and you must start over at step 8. When you are in DFU mode, the app should automatically take over and you will see the progress of the Pwnage on your screen. DONE!

Optional 2G phone only. If you need to unlock your phone, install bootneuter from Cydia and run it! Select “neuter, unlock, do not change bootloader settings, and then flash!”.

Quick Pwn Beta

The DevTeam just realeased a VERY beta version of an application called Quick Pwn. This application will pawn your phone pretty quickly without having to restore. If you're already on a 2.0.2 pawned device, you don't need to do this. Actually, since it's still in Beta and quite unstable, it is only recommended to "experienced" users... This version is only compatible with Windows so far but the Team should develop a Mac version soon.

Download Quick Pwn and extract it to a folder. Download the proper firmware image such as 2.0.1 3g or 2.0.1 2g. Start iTunes and make sure your phone is recognized by it. Leave iTunes running but don’t touch it again. While the command  prompt will say “kill all itunes processes”, you must ignore this step. Plug your phone up to your PC and double click either  “iPhone 2G.bat”, “iPod touch.bat”, or “iPhone 3g.bat” depending on which device you have. Some crazy codes will show on your screen. Per the instructions on the screen, turn off your phone by holding power, sliding to power off, and waiting for it to power off. Do not take the phone off the PC connection or else you will have to start over. Get your phone into DFU mode. This can be quite tricky and you may have to try several times. I usually get it right the first time. If you're not sure how to do this, either YouTube it or check this out. Press ENTER when you are in DFU mode. Then ignore the directions on the screen until it recognizes your phone is in DFU mode. Optional step for 2g phone only. If you need to unlock your phone, install bootneuter from Cydia and run it! Select “neuter, unlock, do not change bootloader settings, and then flash!”.

Troubleshooting:

You see this: Is your device connected to your computer via USB? Type “Y” to continue. Is your iPhone currently powering on? Type “Y” to continue. If you see these questions it means that your phone is not being recognized by the PC. Remember you must have iTunes running and it must see your device. Close and reopen iTunes, disconnect and reconnect your device, or even reboot your PC.

How to install iphone games / applications without Cydia or SSH in ISPW

Thought I’d share something i just tried and worked.

Full credits go to Dabbler who originally posted this on MMI and Hackint0sh.

You want to install iPhone games and applications, but if like me, want to keep your phone as stock as possible (no Cydia, no SSH or any of that) then this is how you do it.

1-Create a custom firmware using the latest pwnage 2-Do not select Cydia, packages or anything else (unless you want to unlock / neuter etc) 3-When pwnage tool asks you for your admin password, around 3/4 of the way through the process – DO NOT ENTER IT 4-Look for the finder window that has opened on your desktop 5-Navigate to navigate /System/Library/PrivateFrameWorks/MobileInstallation.framework 6-Delete the file MobileInstallation 7-Cope the modified MobileInstallation to this folder (I will not say where to get it, but the usual places for modified iPhone stuff would have it) 8-Get the info on the file and set all permissions to read/write 9-Close the window 10-Enter your password that was asked for earlier in pwnage tool. 11-Continue as normal and flash your apparent vanilla ispw to your iPhone. 12- Sync one legit (free or purchased) iPhone app or game to your iPhone.

This is the good bit, you now have a iPhone with no Cydia, no SSH nothing except a modified MobileInstallation framework!

What does this mean? Well you can obtain IPA’s of iPhone applications and games, double click them – they will import to the itunes applications section and you can sync them to your phone just like store bought applications! It also means you can also delete them directly from the iPhone using the hold-app-press-x method – No more SSH or Cydia.

Solar Powered Case for iPhone 3G

I'm sure you will not deny that the new iPhone 3G is a batteries sucker. If like me, you spend quite some time every day surfing the web, emailing and calling from your phone, you probably end up with a dead batteries by mid-day.

To combat this power problem, Mobile Fun has just released a range of Solar Powered cases for the new iPhone 3G. As well as protecting your iPhone 3G from everyday knocks and scrapes these energy saving cases can charge your iPhone.

Built with 1500 mAh battery this can provide one full charge for your iPhone and will recharge itself through the solar panel mounted to the front of the case, or via Mini USB if you’re in a badly lit area. These solar chargers come in both black and white in genuine leather casing.

The solar case can provide enough charge for functional use in less than 3 hours, but it will take a full 10 hours to fill the battery. Maybe the thing to do is leave the case on the dashboard or window sill all day, then charge your phone up at night.

The case is slated for release in August in both black and white versions for around $54.

iPhone software 2.0.1 is out

Apple just released the version 2.0.1 of the iPhone software, supposed to deliver "bug fixes" as Apple likes to call it. Here are some improvements that have been noticed:

You can now drag an app icon across multiple pages in one motion, rather than having to drag it, drop it, pick it up again and drag it over to next page, and repeat. Contacts are now more responsive. After installing 2.0.1, each successive backup is much faster. Keypad loads quicker. Screen rotation in Safari appears to be smoother.

Notes that some apps may ask to be updated after the firmware upgrade.
